Dove, that looks perfect and a real good deal! looking forward to progress pictures!
Clari, go with whatever look you want in your garden, for your clothing and the garden! It's hit hard work out there, despite what your phone's activity monitor thinks!
Wonky; I tripped over myself and landed in the wild area of the garden aka stinging nettle central.
Thank goodness I still had a t shirt on and wasn't belly out; my arms are just one massive red angry lookibg blob. Still. I'm sure nettles are meant to have medicinal qualities so it's all good.
Plus it's a good excuse to stop for some ice cream.
Busy - where did you find your Betty Corning? I had to leave mine behind and haven't seen one here.
Dove - love the arch but have to say we bought all ours in Belgium for about 35€ - same size but cirved top. We loved them and had 4 in different bits of the garden, 3 as functioning archways/passages and 1 borrowing the landscape on the edge of the cow pasture. They all had clems.
Been to a plant fair at Vouvant today and came home with a whole host of goodies including herbs to finish that bed, some more perennials and an experiment. A list will follow when I've made one. Perhaps we need an HRT confessions thread - Horticultural Retail Therapy so chaps can join in too.
It's warm here so I've been and watered all the treasures, old and new, and now we're flopping until dinner time. Better put it in to roast first.
Clari - I've been thinking of a fire pit but we have an old ceramic wood burner stove I found in a brocante in Angoulême a couple of years ago. I'm hoping that will do the job nicely. Bought it after seeing someone with a pair either side of their front door in Verteuil - using them as summer plant displays with flowers instead of flames.
Greetings to all I've missed and all yet to come. Hope you're having a good day.

Hi all. Just don't know where to start with all the overgrown / merged into one / tapestry effect ! Plants competing for space and attention - just rewards for my greed now coming into play! oops! Must remember that plants need room and not to buy too many. one peony removed. Huechera vastly reduced. Blinkin montbretia eradicated (as far as pos!). But some lovely flowers coming through as well. . Have ordered one of those flame weed killers Monty uses for the paths!!! Can't wait!

Just looked at that Dove - your link wasn't there when I posted. Looks good. There's too many to choose from - that's the problem
Nice problem to have though
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Yes, Richard's photo is on here ... stupendous http://www.gardenersworld.com/forum/plants/favourite-late-flowering-clematis/997409.html

It looks a bit like my "Betty Corning", which I love as it's scented.

Clari, I don't fancy falling into nettles.
Luckily, we don't have any here. Probably too dry.
im in bed and turning off - can't stop yawning. Catch you all tomorrow,
Just as well you kept a bit covered Clari! I didn't know we needed an excuse for ice cream!

... that's the best price I can get for something relatively sturdy ... timber prices seem to be on the up here
