yeah. Total opposite of us, used to holiday in the NW Scotland because " Devon gets too hot" .

They had a tumble drier in there, ( now removed ) but they didn't use that . They always hung washing out, or on the airer indoors ( we could easily see it behind the door when passing) not stalking them, honest. image

The heating In Russia is free Dove. But, it is put on and off on a date predecided by the powers that be. I overheat in daughters flat.

This year there was a cold snap after it was put off and there was a run on electric heaters! Many apartments have windows that do t open

Maybe I'm paranoid Lyn, but I've got it into my head, that's the answer.

For everyone else's benefit. There are barns next to us used by a local builder. They're owned by the previous owners of this house and I wouldn't be surprised if they're paying an " all in rent" including power and that power is coming from us.

    Paranoia indeed eh?image

Our electricity bill in France is about £150 a month. It does heat the water but not the radiators. OH forgets to turn off lights!

Beaus Mum, I'm going to the Malvern Show.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

No hosta not paranoia, lyn is probably right.  Def look into it.

obelixx I feel your pain re OH and potager and wood plans image last august I had delivered 14 new railway sleepers that I thought would be easy enough to make a patio area.  OH moaned continually that they had killed all the grass and would be bigger job than I anticipated as garden on slope image

finally this weekend we have progress! He has built me three arches that pull the garden together and base of patio area work in progress image good things do come to those that wait image

    Morning all.

It might seem paranoid, Hosta, but you're right - if the meter is working ok, someone must be using your electricity... you can get electricity consumption meters for not a lot of money, which attach to your mains cable and tell you how much you're using.  Could be a sensible move...

Hello, Beau's Mum!  I'm so glad you've been inspired to do some volunteering - it's great fun, apart from anything else.  image  You asked who was going to Malvern; Busy Lizzie is, I think... don't know about anyone else though.

Hot water is also provided by the state in Russia.  We had a couple of young Russian teachers of English, girls OH had worked with when teaching English as a foreign language, to stay for a while when we lived in Northumberland.  We had to keep the boiler set to "constant hot water", because they couldn't understand the concept of not leaving taps running, having half-hour showers etc.  image  But they were lovely girls and we had a lot of fun when they were staying.  One of them was tall, blonde, willowy and beautiful, and both had a tendency to totter round the Northumberland countryside in high heels, wearing, to English eyes, rather tarty makeup, so they excited quite a lot of interest...  image  Our niece got married while they were here, so we took them to the wedding.  Said niece is refreshingly unconventional - the couple arrived at the reception, which was a bring-and-share, alcohol-free do, in an ice cream van - and it included a ceilidh, at which the Russian girls were very popular as dance partners.  They had a whale of a time, and said they were surprised how happy everyone was, even without alcohol...  image
