Hazel image  I was just thinking earlier today that the garden is looking so much better than in other years, 'cos I've really been able to spend time and energy on it as I've not had work or elderly and poorly parents to eat into my time ....... and I remember thinking back to my first year of retirement when I tripped over the back step and broke my wrist and being glad that I was ok now ........... duh!

Evening all - I'm back too!  Glad you enjoyed Chelsea as much as I did, Chicky.  We'll have photos to compare soon...  image

Ouch!  That's really hard luck, Dove.  Hope the ice and rest makes it improve quickly.

Clari, I think I'd have that conversation with the woman next door sooner rather than later... if she doesn't realise what her kids are up to, she should, preferably before one of them falls off the roof.

I went to the National Gallery this morning, before catching the train home after lunch.  It was reassuring, though a touch scary, to see the number of armed police in Trafalgar Square, and to be thoroughly searched before allowed entry.  (Said search included having to unpack my dirty "smalls" for the examination of the security staff...  image)

Sad to say the minute's silence was much less well observed in the Nat Gallery - hopefully because a lot of the foreign visitors didn't know what was going on.

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

When we took Possum back to Nantes airport for her flight to Brussels after Xmas there were armed soldier patrols all over the place.  Re-assuring really.

Glad you enjoyed yourselves Liri and Chicky.   Not possible for me this year but I'd like to think I can get there next year.   It's a brilliant day out.

Dove - I assumed you have nettles for their wildlife credentials and nettle tea for plants, not that you have weeds......... honest.  I have a gadget you may like to borrow while you recover.  Xmas prezzy from Possum.  It's a bell that sits on the table and when OH - terrible periferal vision - fails to spot that my wine glass needs attention I just go Ping!   Not subtle but effective and it's purple too.

Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Oh dear Dove, hope the pain eases soon.

Been a busy day today, starting off with oversleeping and so missing one of my morning mugs of coffee. I was helping on a charity stall in a Brocante today, that's like a Bric a Brac sale or a car boot sale. Then OH was singing in a concert at 5pm in a town over an hour away and I went to watch, no, I mean listen. Home to cook a late dinner, have recorded Chelsea as we ate outside. It was 32° today.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • I'm sorry to read about your fall Dove. I agree with Hazal, don't be tempted to do anything while you rest. I hope the pain eases off soon.

We had a lovely unproductive day in the sun today. My 5 year old is ill again and is off school. He falls ill every few weeks. Both he and my 2 year old were born 6 weeks early , yet one is as tough as old boots and the other is a fragile little thing.

Feeling very lazy but I'm making the most of it before getting back into work again once I know where we will live over the next few years. OH is trying his hand at real estate in Dubai. If it works, we will join him for a few years until we all come back. If not, he's back in August.

Obbelix - we have a similar gadget - a brass elephants head with a wind up bell - press his ivory tusks and the bell rings quite loudly. Wonky will vouch for it's loudness it was always by the ckildrens beds if they were poorly.

Im in bed now. Foot flipping painful. Ouch!  Sorry to moan but ...

Oh well ... Night night all  ... Tomorrow is another day ... image

Sorry to hear about your knee Dove & hope you are up and about soon (but not too soon). I know your OH will be taking good care of you so put your foot up and try to enjoy the rest. You wouldn't normally plant the runners until next week anyway.

I think we got up to 28C in the shade this afternoon & it was very humid. Hoping for a little trip to the coast tomorrow where there should be a refreshing sea breeze.

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
