  • Back from the farm shop with a small piece of top rib, two duck breasts, two pork escalopes and some chuck steak, some local Williams pears, a dressed crab, a celeriac and a tin of artichoke hearts. Our weekly large sourdough is delivered on Saturdays so OH will bring it home with him tomorrow.

That lot should keep us going for a while - we've got sprouting broccoli, celery, leeks and peppers etc in the fridge and potatoes and carrots in a big earthenware tub in the garage.  I've got some smoked bacon stock in the fridge so I'll  put a big pot of spicy lentil soup on the go inn a few minutes, but first I need a image

The entrance to the garden centre has had a makeover since yesterday morning - lots of Russian Sage and other low shrubby stuff has been removed and the large area around the two double gateways have been replanted with lavender and  about a dozen very tall Juniper 'Skyrockets', approx 20ft tall.  Very striking.

Courtesy car coming tomorrow. Himself is a bit sore. The claims handler has logged it, if it gets worse he will go for physio.  The claims handler has seen the photos of the damage and said that sometimes they call ambulances for people with less damage than that. At least the lorry driver is insured, no problems there.

Kitchen floor is washed, and half a trifle made. custard to go on tomorrow. I just have to excavate the living room table in order to put a buffet on it.

Fizz at 4, food at 6, fireworks at 8.

  • Oh Fidget - sorry to hear he's sore, but not surprised.  Hope it heals quickly and that physio, if needed, is as good as the treatment  I had.

I'm sure my OH would feel that trifle is medicinal - hopefully yours does too image

I have to keep him off the trifle. Its hard because he's a custard lover. Pudding is not pudding without custard. Either made from Birds powder or M&S madagascan vanilla deluxe custard. he's not fussy. He'll even eat tinned ambrosia custard.

  • So will mine Fidget - I usually keep a stock of tinned custard in the pantry to make Rhubarb & Custard Cake at the drop of a hat ............... but I can go there and the custard has disappeared image

I have the same problem with cooked sausages in the fridge. How that mouse manages to open the fridge door, I'll never know. I'm not  buying most of the food for the party until tomorrow morning. Easier to keep him off it then. He can go and prep an area for fireworks while I cook the pork for hot pork baps with stuffing and bramley apple sauce.  All the drinks except red wine are outside cooling down. Anyone know what temp it will be tomorrow? When I was 40 , it snowed. Most of the family didn't turn up. We chilled the champagne by lying it in the snow. Shame there were only five of us to drink six bottles of the vintage stuff.
