  • Have had them in my previous existence Topbird - haven't really got the space for one now - let alone space for storing salt tablets - cupboard space is at a premium in this kitchen - we have a magnetic water conditioner for the central heating boiler etc which seems to have prevented any problems with that ... so far (hope that's not famous last words) and I use Waitrose tablets in the washing machine which again seems to have avoided any problems - my last machine lasted 10 years without problems and this one is around 7 ish so ... fingers crossed again.    The only real faff is the shower so we use after shower spray, and OH gives it a good going over every so often image

Anyway, kitchen is back in working order and I have a mug of coffee, so all is well with my world image

Our water in Belgium was very fresh and pure - no chlorine - but so hard it even left scale on the pets' water dishes.   Always had a horror of water softeners though so had a magnetic dooberry fitted and always used an anti-calcium tablet for every washload.   Spirit vinegar for kettles, coffee pots, shower heads and individual tap filters, descaling gel for taps and spray for showers.   We always wipe down the shower walls with a rubber window cleaner thingy.   Complete palaver.

No scale build up so far here but I use the tablets in the washing machine just in case.

Windy out there now but OK as I'm on sewing room sort out today.   10 coats now and no more ghostly blue stripes.  Still need to paint the radiator and windowsill but they can wait a bit.

More importantly, I have got my sound systems in and working - one for radio and CDs and an old-fashioned radio cassette player that can get Radio 4.   Sorted!

After we had a new boiler fitted , we also had a water softener fitted , absolutely brilliant, definitely one of our better ideas image

The band of horrid weather promised for this afternoon appears to be on it's way; the sky is dark and the wind's getting up.  Hope Wonky's got her thermals on.

On the brighter side ... I popped outside and checked the veg patch ... the broad beans sown at the end of October have made an appearance image

NDN's younger cat has given the seedbed a bit of attention image  but I think he's missed the beans image

We are supposed to be having dry sunny spells but for the last couple of hours we've had strong winds and heavy rain.   OH has an app on his mobile which forecasts by the hour and says it will be wet until 4pm.   The same app on the PC - accuweather - tells me it will be dry and sunny till sunset and then wet.

It has been a month now since Pusscat died.   We've decided we don't like being a cat free household and need a kitten or preferably two so they can play and hang up on he dogs but the local rescue place wants to vet us first.  All well and good but they're taking their time about it.   No doubt he, she or they will have fun in our veggie patch when we get one built.

Fence is repaired and horses are back where they should be. Electric fence working.

Water here is very hard, on limestone.

At the moment my cat is in disgrace, she keeps digging up my pots and I've run out of anti-cat stuff, which doesn't work very well anyway. She keeps walking all over my car and leaving muddy footprints on it. Miss my dog, he never destroyed the garden. OH doesn't want another dog, he says we come and go too much nowadays and a dog might outlive him. Thing is, I don't want any dog, I want a replica of my Tigger.

I think the worst of ours has passed over - there's blue sky in the west - unless we've got more to come .....
