I can't cope with Jeremy Vine's voice - too creepy and smarmy - so never listen.   What is happening in Syria is awful but, sadly, not unique.  The Yemen is no better at the mo and sadly, I have no idea how they can be fixed or helped given that no western politician is about to upset the Saudis who also mess in Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and anywhere they can foment trouble between Muslim factions.

In Belgium, mussels are usually the big flabby Zeeland kind which I can only cope with once a year at most.  Now it turns out we are half an hour away from two mussel growing centres that provide 20% of France's production and they are the lovely small, juicy and tasty "moules de bouchot" which are the best - http://www.pleinemer.com/mussel-work.htm and we've already eaten them out twice.   Maybe again next week as we're planning a lunch out.   Yum.

Between those and the sardines and mackerel and other fish landed along this coast we are happy bunnies.

It has suddenly got very dark after a shower of hailstone so there's probably more on the way.

I would love to be able to curl up in front of a big log fire in dismal weather.

Clari - hope Reggie will be fine when you arrive home.

Fingers crossed for your OH pdoc.

Mucked out the field shelter, shoulder has survived. Think Dove was right, it didn't involve reaching up. Then I weeded the narrow kitchen terrace bed, was amazed to get a whole barrowload of stuff out of it. Planted Sundisc daffodils in it.

I wonder if the Belgian Monk was the place we saw in Norwich last year, looked lovely outside, menu was great but when we went in the music was so loud we couldn't  stand it and had to leave.

I've just found out there is a lady here in Dordogne who has a barn she uses for storing donated clothes, household equipment etc for refugees and people on very low income. The stuff has to be sorted and packed into boxes, then it's take to Syria, or Paris where it's sent for refugees from the ex Calais camp or to a place for the homeless and poor of Limoges. I've volunteered a day of helping to sort it on Friday next week.

OH can't stand loud music in restaurants etc, either, so I don't think the Belgian Monk would've been the place you mention - we've certainly never noticed it and OH would have refused to go back there if it was noisy ... unless someone had the music turned up the day you were there ...

Good for you and all the other volunteers organising and sorting the clothing for the refugees and other needy souls xx

Afternoon image Another day when I didn't need to water the turf....

Log delivery due this morning so up bright and early to open the gates and trip to SM delayed - he's just left..image

Belgian Monk looks good Dove - might have to give it a try next time I'm in town. Love mussels even if I have suffered with a gippy tummy at least 3 times after eating them in restaurants. Tend to just have them at home now.

Hope all poorly peeps and dogs are feeling better soon. Feels like an evening to snuggle in front of the fire and TV with hot chocolate - I might just do thatimage

Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down

In that case we'll look out for the Belgian Monk next time we are in Norwich, maybe January.

Our Tivo  box went all green screen and no use last night. After three goes of a three hour wait while they fix it, Virgin have agreed it is screwed(technical term) and sending a new one out on Friday. At least the broadband is still working.

It also means I have lost everything recorded on it.image

Back to the kindle for a book to read I think.

  • The Belgian Monk is down a little back street a couple of streets away from the marketplace - our experience is that people only seem to find it if they're looking for it.  It's very popular with real ale types and fans of continental beers - they carry a huge range.  They also do very good sausages image

Oh dear Fidget, how heartbreaking. Does that mean all your beautiful underwater photos?

Didn't know what it was, seems it stores recorded TV programmes. Does that mean Poldark, Strictly etc?

This is what I'd come here to say - Just been outside in the dark catching 3 escaped horses. New hay is coming tomorrow, they have hay in the shelter but I think they've turned up their noses as the quality wasn't good. Have put them in the winter paddock where there is some grass. Found a broken fence post by the water butts, will have to mend it tomorrow. Thank God it didn't happen when we were away or this weekend when I'm with son. I was watching TV when I heard them outside the window, think they'd come to tell me.
