Hi all We had a lovely quiet day, the duck was excellent, with some very good, spicy red cabbage and we followed that with a great selection of cheese and Christmas cake, made for me by a friend of Moira’s, in return for the gardening advice I gave her during the year. Now just need to try and stay calm for a couple more days.
How can you lie there and think of England When you don't even know who's in the team
Good morning all. I hope everyone had a decent day yesterday whether busy, quiet, special, or otherwise. For anyone who finds this time of year sad or difficult - I hope you are doing ok.
I’m off to work now. I’m hoping there’s not an influx of poorly people who held off until today - there usually is on Boxing Day. Wish me luck!
Glad everyone had a lovely Christmas - we did too. We eat late afternoon as no-one likes a big dinner in the middle of the day. My SIL did a marvellous job and the gravy was to die for.
We have a day off today as both g'daughters are working at their Saturday/holiday jobs - one in a local cafe, the other in a local pub. Lots of people in town for the annual Boxing Day hunt. We saw the horses go past our window on their way into town. It is a spectacle - but I don't condone it. They are harriers and I know they do catch actual hares. But I keep out of it and don't join in the protests.
However, I have some prep. for tomorrow as they are all coming to us then for hearty soup followed by (day after)Boxing Day tea. I am going to attempt Mary Berry's pavlova wreath. I bought some meringue nests, just in case my meringue turns out like chewing gum as it did last time I attempted to make it. If it does, we shall have some form of Eton Mess.
I love chewy meringue @didyw … you could fling some in this direction 😉
I have changed ready to go out to MIL’s hotel a couple of miles away for the rest of the day and dinner .., I am wearing a skirt! Can’t remember the last time I wore one, other than a sundress type outfit …

I found it in the back of the wardrobe … it’s a deep purple faux suede … I’m wearing it with black boots, a deep jade crossover top and a short deep cerise jacket … there’s a strange woman in the mirror 😳

Could you take a picture @Dovefromabove so we can see this new woman that you have created? Sounds very swish. So glad to hear that you all seem to have had a wonderful Christmas Day with none of the usual mishaps that always seem to occur. @Nanny Beach I have to admit to finding a whole tray of carefully sculptured stuffing balls right at the back of the aga a week after Christmas many years ago! And daughter will be going back to East Sussex - Heathfield area - where we all lived before moving to Wales many years ago. When the younger members of the family grew up they all migrated back to Sussex, formed their own families and reconnected with the friends of their childhood. Daughter will be breaking in to G/daughter's house (key under the flower pot kind of thing) as they have taken themselves off to Egypt for Christmas - what were they thinking? They will be back on Friday. From there she will be visiting other family members and friends returning here next Sunday or Monday - hence my totally peaceful week!
Good morning folks, we too, had a good day yesterday with no mishaps or burnt offerings. It's dry and a bit chillier today so we'll probably go out for a walk.
Glad you managed with the sore hand @Allotment Boy and commiserations @AuntyRach at having to work on Boxing Day, I'm sure we're all grateful for people like you who have to work over the holidays.
Sorry, didn't manage to post this earlier. Enjoyed our walk, good to be out in the fresh air again.
Hi all - hope Christmas is going well for everyone. Haven't had a chance to read back. If anyone is looking for some gentle TV escapism, I stumbled across an episode on BBC four of Miss Marple, the one with Joan Hickson. Complete nonsense but very relaxing and she really was the very best at the role. I'm hoping they'll show some of the others ...
