Hoping the op is all over for @punkdoc and he is back in his hospital bed recovering.
Feeling a bit grotty today as not much sleep last night thanks to some nasty gale force winds, two dogs getting worried by all the outside noises didn't help either. Hate the strong winds as we suffered quite a bit of damage from the '87 hurricane and the memories have stayed with me. It is a bit calmer now and I hope it stays that way as I have to grab my stick and totter over to take our elderly stallion his daily feed. He has his own fields but shares half of a small barn with his companion, another elderly boy who roams free round the yard areas and pond keeping the grass down for us.
Then I think it is a restful afternoon for me while I wait for the chicken bone boil up (plus a mix of veggies, peppers, mushroom etc) to finish chuntering away on the rayburn ready for an early supper.
Stay safe all of you while this latest storm passes away.
Glad people managed to get to and from where they were going safely. Fingers also crossed that this continues.
We had the family yesterday for traditional hearty vegetable soup for lunch followed by traditional Boxing Day tea (although it was the day after Boxing Day) which was in fact 3 courses - salads and meats, cheese then pudding. Lots of crockery and cutlery in use and all I could see when I closed my eyes to sleep last night was piles of plates & bowls.
The pudding was deemed a success:
Didn't need to fall back on the bought-in meringue nests - mine came out well!
Day off today - I just have to pick up the meds. I could so easily have picked up before Christmas.Â
Afternoon all, thanks for the compliments on the tarts. I don't often bake so it's good when something turns out well. After a very funny, eery, orange/pink sky yesterday evening, we woke up to dry weather, although still very windy and even some bits of sunshine. I managed half an hour's gardening, digging out couch grass clumps from the edge of my 'Rough Patch' where I hope the crocuses will emerge again - or not, if the squirrels ate them all last year. Didn't realize I was getting wet until I looked up at a plane overhead, so made a hasty exit. Still, it was good to get outside for a bit.
We sometimes use that route across to Burford @Ergates, it's quite handy. Glad your family got home safely.
@coccinella, the Manchester pics look dire don't they but fortunately I believe nobody was hurt. Just read that the Blackpool Tower is on fire. Hope they manage to put it out.
@AnnaB, hope your now feeling a bit more spry, I don't like windy conditions at the best of time so feel for you, especially as your daughter is away. Hopefully the two horses were okay and glad of their treats. We laid awake listening to the rain gurgling into our water butts which are right outside the bedroom window.
Wonder how Punkdoc is doing, recovering well with a bit of luck.
Hurrah!!! 🙏 🙏 🙏 Brilliant news @punkdoc !  You were/are obviously in the very best of hands … thank you for letting us  know … phew! 🍷Â

didyw, you really don't want to fall back on shop bought meringue, think of the mess, and you might slip! Me, weekly shop. Had my hair done.... going to other grandparents tomorrow for lunch. Normally I make a fancy dessert,we have a trifle (still in date) no-one wanted Christmas day. Other daughter local one,her bloke has got Covid, the 3 kids are all ill, she won't be round for a while. Trifle needs eating by the 30th.Told other granny I will take the trifle, but as it's not homemade, I have made a cake, lemon icing with our home grown lemons . Yes,am thinking of Punkdoc.

Been busy clearing up but more like resting - the aftermath has hit me!!
many leftover bits but not really bubble and squeak material. Â
Fab pav @didyw and the best ones are the chewy in the middle ones.
Waiting for your news @punkdoc  Â
I will write more tomorrow as I had written a longer message but pressed post instead of save and lost the lot.
 Enjoy your evening folks.
A bit of a palaver, but the excellent drs. and nurses have sorted me out and I am now up on the ward.
