Rose de Rescht will be lovely @Busy-Lizzie but think hebes do better in full sun, time will tell. I need to get more compost as well, as I used nearly a full bag of J.I.3 to pot up my new rose Chandos Beauty. I would have liked to put it in a taller pot as well but now have a GC voucher from my son so might have a look at pots perhaps next week.

I was really surprised to see the snowdrop as most of my other ones are only just poking through. This one is what I always thought was a G.Woronowii, you may remember there was some discussion on here last year, either that or it may be 'Colossus'.

I'm not surprised you are having a relaxing day after you hectic family gatherings!

Thank you so much for your comments everyone. Ā

My lovely nursy neighbours came over with a pair of crutches. Ā As my leg isn't turned in, it seems unlikely that I have done any damage to the prothesis. Ā I have however it seems, nicely "stretched" the crural muscle which runs on the inside of the thigh up and around the groin to back to the buttock. Ā I am relieved that I haven't done any damage to the hip. Ā I cannot put my foot down as it is too painful so I am obliged to take meals at the bench as I cannot manoeuvre crutches and plates or cups.

On my nurses' advice, I took an anti-inflammatory and a strong painkiller with my lunch and applied some cold to the muscle. Ā Brrr. Ā Basically stayed on the couch and will continue to do so. Ā  The surgeon's receptionist has Emailed me an x-ray prescription.

@punkdoc Ā Great to hear your news Ā Hopefully you can go home today. Ā Best place for R & R.

@tui34, thank heaven for good neighbours. Glad you're relatively ok but it sounds very painful. I did much the same last July when I fell and 'stretched' a big muscle in my back and side - absolute agony and I couldn't walk either so deep sympathies for you.
Don't hesitate to summon further help from your GP if you feel you need it.

Glad to hear that you will be going home @punkdoc, your note about needing a fag made me laugh. As a smoker myself time in Hospital was something I was not looking forward too, however the kindly nurses plonked a patch thingy on me after supper every evening. Trouble was that it lasted 24 hours getting less useful as the day passed and took a couple of hours to 'get going', so the need for my after supper ciggy caused me much mental torture for those couple of hours. Only a smoker will understand (and sympathise).
  • I am a smoker … I’ve not smoked for nearly 30 years but I know I’m stillĀ a smoker … just one and I’d be back smoking every evening.Ā

Son is a smoker … obviously he ā€˜de-riced’ while in ICU on life support etc and I had hoped that he wouldn’t start again … but being a smoker is so much part of ā€˜who he is’ and he was desperate to put the accident behind him and Ā  start ā€˜being him’ again … so he’s smoking again … out in the garden … he’s only ever smoked outside so at least the winter weather limits him a bit.Ā

I gave up smoking when I was 36. It was hard at first as OH was a heavy smoker. I missed it for the first year. OH died because of smoking when I was 47, 25 yrs ago. I'm so glad I gave up. I don't miss it at all and I am not a smoker anymore.

  • Evening all,

Well done @punkdoc, I really hope you'll be home soon and feeling better.Ā

I've finally got Charlie back with me, we've snuggled up on the sofa, I read my book, he updated his Instagram account, we discussed AI and the Germans during the war..... Random I know, but gosh how happy we are together. 😊

Having just finished a book about the German occupation of France, I was staggered by the levels of cruelty applied to the French, obviously one book is only one view of the situation, but now would like to learn more, any recommendations anyone?Ā

Ā Morning everyone. Ā Another warm day here. Ā  Ā It’s interesting reading about smoking. We both smoked, but when we went through the confusion of cyclone Tracy and moved from Darwin to Canberra, we made the decision to beat the craving. I can well remember how hard it was.Ā

Thanks for keeping us up with progress on hips etc. it must be very hard. My GP has put me on fluid tablets and I’m now wondering why. She didn’t say why. Ā It’s a bit irritating to get up and down so often. šŸ˜

Dove, any news from your neighbours who went to WA to visit family? Ā It’s been very hot over there. Ā I’m glad we are on the south east, not west.
