Morning all, what a beautiful painting @Punkdoc, I could contemplate it for hours - so calming. Good luck for tomorrow.

Glad you extricated yourselves @D0rdogne_Damsel, when does Charlie have to go back to school? Hope you don't have to have any contact with your ex over New Year, his happiness or otherwise is not your concern any more.

We didn't wake up until nearly nine, must be these dark mornings. It's hammering down outside and very windy. Daughter is supposed to be going home to Devon today but may put it off until after lunch when hopefully it might calm down a bit. I did suggest she went yesterday but she wanted to stay a bit longer. I have an invitation to stay to prune her roses if there is a possibility, weather wise in January.

Glad the GP's visit went well @Pat E, enjoy the flopping especially with Pixel!

Couldn't contemplate either mincepies or sausage rolls for breakfast in bed!

    Have a good day everyone.

Just saw this painting on Instagram and really loved it. Tristram Hillier

I love it too, punkdoc, so I'm bringing it onto this page.

Hearty veg soup made, meringue seems to be OK.  (crisp on the outside, gooey in the middle).  Now a quick tidy round and a bit more prep before the family arrived.

Can't promise to shine as jewel-like as @Dovefromabove - but I am wearing a skirt.

Lovely pic @punkdoc.  Google yoga breathing exercises and have a go at that.

Hello all, another beautiful sunny day after a hard frost this morning. Just back from the SM, just for a few things that were on the low side. I've filled the bird feeders and the ground ones, the Sparrows seem to be the main takers.
All will be well tomorrow @punkdoc try and focus on other things, and don't forget we will be in your pocket with you if you need us.

Quick question for all you cooks out there. I was going to try making turkey tartlets today and the recipe (from the Telegraph) calls for 150ml of double cream beaten into an egg. Could I use some clotted cream instead as I haven't any double cream left?

    Thanks.

  • I certainly would @Lizzie27 … maybe slacken it just a little bit with a tablespoon or so of milk.

Thanks Dove, the addition of milk makes sense. I'll let you know how they turn out!

  • This is the menu from last evening

I started with the pork loin carpaccio … soft and really tasty, then I had the venison which was absolutely superb, cooked perfectly, just a hint of pink without being rare .., and the accompaniments very good indeed. I finished with the Cromwell Stilton ‘dessert’ … absolutely amazing and something I’ll try to copy .. the poached pear was lightly pickled and was perfect with the cheese.
Live music and an entertainer perfectly selected for family dining … a really enjoyable evening. 😎

That sounds really delicious @Dovefromabove, pleased you had such a good evening, you deserved a treat after the year you've just had. May next year be much better, for us all really.

Daughter has just left for  her home in Devon, against my inclinations. The weather's absolutely foul here but wasn't forecast to let up until 2 pm when that meant she'd still be driving in the dark for the last hour or so. OH has put all his wet weather gear on and walked down to get the daily paper and some lovely crunchy batons for lunch from the bakery, so I'm enjoying the peace and quiet after a very hectic five days of visitors.

  • Fabulous menu @Dovefromabove, I think I'd have chosen the same too. 😋

I've been into work, couldn't concentrate or focus, I know it's silly but feeling a bit traumatised, probably too strong a word, but all of can think of, after spending almost 3 days at Charlie's dad's. One has to be on alert all the time, watching what you say or do, guarded and cautious, exhausting.

Anyway, they're all fine at work so I've come home, washed the filthy muddy car and am now enjoying a relaxing coffee break outside on my terrace, yet another beautiful day. Thank you for putting the idea in my head @AnnaB. 😁

Charlie is at his dad's today and tomorrow, but back to me Saturday. Poor lad wanted to stay longer but it was a battle I wasn't ready for. We'll have New Year's together, apart from his ' gathering' on NYE, and I'm invited to friends so all will be well, and no I don't have to see his dad anymore this week, thankfully!

Safe journey for you daughter @Lizzie27, always a worry travelling in horrid weather.
