    Such a sad day.

Could not get motivated in the garden, so sat and listened to the radio and tried to think about some of the acts of kindness that were shown after the barbarity.

I have to believe, that in the end, goodness will prevail, although at the moment it is hard to do.

Absolutely doc. The people who went out of their way to help, and put themselves at risk, are the real heroes. We have to keep believing there are more of those people than the others. I've been telling myself that all day.

In case anyone wants to donate - there's a JustGiving page for the families in Manchester.

I'm afraid the faff and frills of Chelsea seem very insignificant today.  I can't get excited about any of it. Didn't see anything much that took my fancy, although I did feel there was a good predominance of 'green' which pleased me. It's the greatest colour for any garden, after all.

I went to bed before you posted Liri. Congrats to your family - a bit of brightness which has been needed today. image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

Hello everybody.  I am new to this forum so please forgive if I am stepping on toes.  Is it OK to ask a specific garden related question in this forum ?  I have posted separately but as yet have not managed to get any help.

I have a very much loved flowering cherry tree which is dropped badly spotted leaves at a rate I can hardly keep up with.

Please look at my separate post which contains a picture of the leaves and give me any advice you have.

    many thanks

    LG that's brilliant news!!

Neal; this thread in the forum is for general chit chat. You're very welcome to join in but when asking questions here they get lost very quickly. Be patient and someone who can answer you will be here soon.

Hi Neal - welcome to the forumimage

This particular thread is more for chit chat and coffee break talk. I've posted on your thread - hope it's of use.

Saw your friends at Chelsea Hosta - congratulations to them - they did very well considering the problems with the weather etc. Nice little section on mini hostas for you too.

I really like some of the gardens this year - I love the Japanese one, the Covent Garden one, the Poetry Lover's garden, the Canadian one, the Norfolk Broads one and Maggie's garden. I love the very muted or green pallets and some of the natural / wild plantings - all very tranquil and relaxing.

I do admire Chris Beardshaw and his garden was very good (some excellent planting) but somehow it didn't stir my soul like some of the others. The Japanese - No Wall, No War (something like that) was exquisite (IMO) - seems amazing to think it only occupies a 5m x 7m plot - I could have that instead of the soft fruit patch - hope I win the lottery this weekimage (best buy a ticket first).

Hope you've had a good day Clari - pleased to hear you and LG have been paid - unacceptable behaviour by both employers though.

    Good evening friends!

I'm in the Big Smoke, staying a couple of nights in a studio apartment in Hammersmith (52 stairs up, feels like home!) so I can get to Chelsea by eight tomorrow.  London seems ridiculously full of people...  I totally agree that flower shows lose their appeal in the face of such dreadful, inhumane events.  However, I've got a ticket... and a lot of people have worked very hard to produce fabulous plants, while others have woven them into works of art like the Japanese garden... so I'll go, and admire.  We can't give in.

Hoopoes AND nightingales, Obelixx?  What a lovely problem to have...  image

Have done very little today.  Couldn't concentrate.

I hope you have a thoroughly wonderful day at Chelsea Liri and that Chicky has had a great time today.    Lots and lots of pics please, especially Chris B's garden which always gets short shrift on the Beeb's coverage.

The terrorist threat level has been raised.

I only hope the media keep out of the way enough to let the police do their jobs to prevent the death or injury of any other innocent person.
