    Morning all.

    Blue sky and sun today

Garden is looking lush after the rain.

Obelixx, it would be lovely if the swallows and house martins took up residence.

Hi Joyce.  I find it odd that there are no nests in the open ended barn.  Haven't seen any in the ruin either but then we can't explore upstairs as the floor is now unsafe.   Great wildlife haven I'd have thought.

Temp low last night was 15.6C ... and the water butts have filled up ... the garden looks "verdant and bucolic" .... according to OH image

    Morning everyone.

I don't understand why swallows find some sites acceptable and others - which look very similar to me - not.  Around here, the Sports Centre has the majority of swallow nests, underneath its large roof overhang.

Next to our former abode in Northumberland (an old farmhouse) there were barn owls nesting in the disused granary and "gin gan" next door.  Then the farmer sold the buildings and the barn owls had to find a new home...  image  ...it made a lovely house though.

BL, glad the garden has been getting on with things in your absence; hope the frost damage hasn't been too severe.

Fairy, you've just reminded me I planted some liatris a month or two back.  I wonder where it is...  image

The rain stopped yesterday afternoon, so I sowed another row of sugar peas and went on slug patrol.  There are lots.  image  I was rejoicing that the meconopsis I'd sowed in the autumn appeared to be germinating - then noticed that the seedlings looked remarkably like the nameless weeds appearing in neighbouring pots.  I'll have to wait and see, I suppose.

There are flower buds on my cut-leafed lilac (Syringa x laciniata) for the first time since I planted it ten years ago.  image

    Morning all.

And so it goes on. Just spent almost an hour, on and off the phone to SSE.

Smart meter is now NOT being fitted this afternoon. " Trace and search" test is happening next Wednesday morning and a follow up call has been booked for next Thursday.

It's flippin' freezin' here and still raining and I've just put the heating back on.

Off to Bude later to collect freeby tomatoes and a couple of cucumbers.

All this electricity nonsense and mucking about is doing nothing for my sleep. Another night with less than 4 hours again.

I need a hot cup of tea as the last one got cold due to phone calls.

    Catch you all later.

    Devon.

We now have a light cover of cloud so the temp has gone down to 25C.  Perfect weeding weather.  Just as well as the silk tree bed is full of them - creeping thistle, creeping buttercup with added swollen roots, some sort of miniature bindweed, sticky bud, grass, dandelions..........   Making lots of space for treasures tho.

Dogs went berserk earlier as two JWs rang the bell at the gate and wanted to chat about faith.  Offered me a pamphlet too.  No thanks.

Sounds like a long haul Hosta but it will get sorted eventually.  Hang in there.

Liri - I think i'll investigate owl boxes for the barn and put up some swallow nest cups just in case..

Obelixx, that was a lost opportunity! The JWs could have got down on their knees, weeded and contemplated. . . . .

SM delivery has arrived and will be put away after coffee.
