Love the smell of Vicks or Olbas Oil... don't get it in your eyes though! Will take your mind of any cough suppose!
I recommend hot squash for coughs and colds - can relieve tickles, soothe the throat plus keeping well hydrated helps with bringing up sputum and fighting infection. Honey and lemon also good.
Some horrible viruses and respiritory infections about. Good luck with all the remedies folks!
Fidget, I made the Simnel cake for Christmas because we prefer it to the traditional dark Christmas fruit cake. Plus it has twice the amount of marzipan (including the layer baked into the middle) - which is the best bit...
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Feeling zombie-like here after 4am start. Just back from dance class which was excellent. Lots of lovely tango - our favourite - and then rumba which is definitely not our favourite but is OK. Minstrel kitten is in fine voice and is so gone with her hormones that she's singing to Rasta doggy and letting her get quite close. Rasta is flat on the floor in front of her with her tail going 19 to the dozen. Cosmos doesn't understand a thing. It's very funny.
Busy - hope the journey is OK and the sweeties work. Rangemaster destined for the annex (summer kitchen?) because the real kitchen is a funny shape and badly planned and can't really accommodate a 110cm wide cooker and a fridge and a dishwasher and work tops. The 90cm gas hob is a push already and, while the hob works fine, the oven is a disaster (might be OK with town gas but not bottled) so we'll get rid and put in a 60cm built in electric oven with a gas hob in case of power cuts. Then I'll have my lovely Rangemaster in reserve for big baking sessions and when we have guests.
Dance class was really good this evening. The dance floor has one wall of floor length mirrors (Yikes!) so, while I can see the wee bit of Xmas blubber has already gone, I can also see I need to get rid of the excess kilos I've been carting around for a while now so I can get in my spring and summer clobber and some dance frocks that are inexplicably tight...........
I have some home-made blackcurrant cordial for colds and have been having a wee pot of Greek yoghurt sprinkled with cinnamon and lemon honey every day for the last 2 weeks. I do not want a lurgy. Too much to do.
Sweet dreams all and good rest for those needing to catch up on sleep or fight lurgies. Almost the weekend.

Hello everyone. I've been eating banana cake and enjoying it very much. My bunch of bananas were turning black before I could get through them, so I suggested to the cook that a cake might do the trick. Yummy. I suspect the bathroom scales might go up a bit this week. Just as well he like baking.
we're hoping for another rain shower this afternoon. Strangely, my neighbour rang this morning to ask if we'd seen the colour of the river today. It's turned a black/dark brown. An indication of how heavy that rain was down the valley yesterday and washing everyone's soil etc into the river. That's a bit confusing, but the head of the river is south of us, but of course is upstream. So, do I describe it as down the vallley or up the valley. Hmmm. Not sure.
ill try for a photo of the river later when the morning sun isn't reflecting everywhere.
Well it's 5 o'clock and I've been awake since 1.45. The only way to stop coughing is to sit bolt upright - not the ideal sleeping position.
Did the Vick work at first? - maybe. I would say, if you've got some knocking about, give it a go but don't buy it specially. I'm not convinced about the foot business either. It'd probably waft about wherever you put it.

We loathe marzipan Liri. Takes all sorts.
