Heading to Glen Clova Joyce, which is around 2 and a half hours, but I drop daughter at work just before 7 am, so I'll be there for about half nine. Ben Tirran/The Goet is what I'm planning. I'd like to do it on a snowy/frosty day but, as Mr Jagger said - you can't always get what you want.  image

The only hills that aren't wall to wall fog tomorrow are in the east - as usual - so it seems the best choice. It's around four to six hours depending on which route I take.   Will hopefully get out over the holidays too, although I might be  down south for a few days as my uncle died last month and the funeral is probably going to be just before New Year.

Today was almost like a spring day here - nice to see a bit of sun, even if it was too chilly to be gloveless for very long  image

Sorry to hear about your uncle Fairy.

Yes. It was lovely here today too. Give the new poles a good try out.

    Evening all.

Went into Work to consolidate driving / checkout rotas.

Seems I've got 3 x 8am starts next week and one 9.15pm finish ( Friday, eek ! ) No idea how I got roped into all that lot.

Spent a nice time in the garden being all butch with chain saw .image

Glad you're feeling better Wonky. I had flu this time 2 years ago and I lost 10lbs in a week.

Total plap on telly so roll on catch up.

    Devon.

Thanks Joyce - we were never close though. He and his wife moved to the south of England when we were quite young, and we didn't really have much contact.

I forgot to take my new poles last week, so I might put them in the car later....image

Hosta - perhaps the extra shifts will help you sleep, although the different hours will maybe mess you about more. Perhaps it would help if you could get a more regular rota if they would be willing to do that? Forgot to say - I totally agreed with you about that House of the Year choice. Very ugly. All very well having a flexible layout, for want of a better phrase, but it was very clumsy on the outside. I liked the one in Northumberland,  although I only saw the final programme. Didn't care for the 'red metal' one either. Wouldn't you have wanted some greenery and comfort in the enclosed courtyard?  image

    Hiya Fairy.

I rarely do overtime and normally just stick with my Sun and Tues shifts due to garden commitments, but at this time of year, I've agreed to " do my bit"

I think I've just resigned myself to the notion that sleep is always going to be a nightmare. I've done everything I can find I'm supposed to do / avoid and none of it makes any difference.

Hey ho, plenty much worse off than I.

The winning house was the only house in the whole series which I hated. All over the place, totally claustrophobic and, IMHO, ugly. I loved the walled garden house on the last programme. I even loved the very minimalist courtyard THEY had. I agree with you on the Red Tin house. image

    Enjoy your walk tomorrow.

Ta love - hopefully it'll be a dry one image

Have you ever thought of hypnosis or anything? I'm not normally in favour of these things but some people do seem to find it beneficial for certain problems. I know how horrible it is to be lying awake. I seem to be getting a better pattern now that I have a bed!

I'd managed to miss the House series somehow.  I love all types of architecture - old and new -as long as they're done well.  Love a bit of Frank LLoyd Wright so some of the contemporary houses were right up my street, but I think you can overdo the 'modernity' of a building. The winning one just seemed overcooked in every way. The tin house was lovely inside, but I would have wanted somewhere nice outside to potter or for sitting/entertaining. Seemed odd they didn't do that.

Hosta will we get a video of you being butch with a chainsaw?  I'm 'frit to death' with oursimage.

Sorry about your Uncle, Fairy.  Even if you're not close it always seems to be an end of another era.  Enjoy your Sunday walk.  Think one of your pics had your sticks in viewimage

Liri, if one of the pictures on JPlanet is the same as my avatar then they're mine.  I'm following Pat, Fairy and now you.  That is 'following' - not stalkingimageimage.  Oh, we had a little flock of long-tailed tits the other day tooimage

    Fingers crossed LilyP xx.

    Evening all.

For some reason all the mince pies have gone (I may be entirely guilty for this). So I'm trying a different receipe for the pastry (less buttery) and an icing sugar top instead of pastry. Hopefully they'll not be too sweet.

     image

I think I may have done the pastry too thin (grandma does ones so thick you need a hammer to get through to the good mince inside so Im

Oh! It decided I'd written enough and posted for me.

I'm always careful to keep my pastry nice and thin. But there is too thin and we're bordering on structurally unsound.

I need to test a few to check...

I love the long tailed tits - used to get them visiting in the garden round the corner, but haven't seen any in this one -  yet. Not sure they'd be able to use the cage feeder though - I'd need an alternative one somewhere for them. The r***y starlings would snaffle all the food though.... image

End of an era - yes. My parents only had one sibling each. He was my Mum's older brother.

Think my old poles were in one of the Lochain pix from a fortnight ago. I leave them in the car, but I don't really  want to leave these ones - they're  a bit pricey.  They're all singing, all dancing turquoise ones with clicky fittings for altering the length  image
