Joyce, it is lovely isn't it?

I'm planning on hostas behind the pine towards the pond, ( not seen in the photos) and I thought I'd take advantage of the relative shelter and shade and plant the new Jap maples in that "new" area.

Hazel, sorry. I meant to say, yes a new area.

There was another pine just behind the new site of The Rock. but someone decided to tie it up with orange nylon baler twine and the top snapped off.

At first I was horrified, but it's given my a whole new area to play with. As you see, I've removed the fence which was there to open it all up.

    Morning all.

The leaves have suddenly fallen off the copper beech in the wind and rain. Need sweeping off the lawn, but the lawn is sodden.

The pump for the pool cleaner seems to have packed up, more expense. The man still hasn't got back to me for changing the filter which is leaking.

Wasn't actually morning here when I said that!

Good heavens that's a big rock, just looked back at the photos.

    Internet is being very slow.

Hosta - an ideal area for Acers.

BL - I spent most of yesterday morning leaf clearing.......high winds and heavy rain last night so just as bad again.  The larch trees are now yellow so their needles will be everywhere inside and outside.

Morning all, raining and dull here but tomorrow is supposed to be better so I may be able to sort out the dahlias in the morning.

Out and about with Mabel yesterday, had to pick up a light fitting for secondborn from Laura Ashley.  Whilst we were waiting for the assistant to retrieve it from the back of the shop we had a look around.  There was a cookbook stand in the shape of a large fork and spoon.

Mabel 'that's a very bit spoon nanna, I like it'

'Yes, it is Mabel' I said.

Mabel, looking at the price ticket,  'We can't buy that nanna, it's £20, that's too pricey'

The shop assistant tidying the shelves couldn't stop laughing.  No idea what the price really was.  Neither did Mabel, at 3 years old she can't read yet.

Hope everyone has a good weekend.

I'm planning a little ribbon of Ophiopogon along the front of The Rock to edge the path.

Sounds like a good plan Hosta.  Well done for rock moving progress so far.  This is the bed OH was clearing yesterday - similar mess to your before photos but without the slate to sieve..

Once he's finished clearing crud he'll fork it over to level it a bit and then we'll pour on loads of bought compost as we have none yet and then I can plant my bulbs and some of the treasures.   The tree is an albizzia julibrissin whose canopy I have already lifted to allow light, air and rain in below.

Love your Mabel story, Yvie!  She sounds like an endless source of entertainment.

Congrats on the Rock, Hosta.  We've been imagining it all these months - and it is indeed a thing of beauty.

Punkdoc, you did the right thing.  Ignore the boorish neighbour.

Best wishes to Fairy (wrist) and Pat & Clari (gippy tums).  Hope they soon improve.

Pardon my brevity but I'm standing next to the road half a mile from the cottage (nearest place with Internet), watching a very large black cloud approaching...

    See you later!
