Joyce - my GRT was a seedling form a friend's garden which se passed on to me with 3 others when she moved back to the UK. One survived and is now about 5' tall so should be ready for planting out now. Need to think about eyelines and sunshine and a liquidambar too though.
Tbird - your weather sounds perfect for your needs. Hope you have fun with your friend and got your coffee in time.
I used to have discussions with my scientists (English conversation) and their ghast was always flabbered that the UK has no written constitution and goes on custom, precedence and the rule of law. Couldn't understand the lack of ID cards either from the need to know how many people should be saved in the event of a house fire to working out who's who in other accidents to just plain collecting taxes, voting; opening and accessing bank accounts and so on.

Hello friends! Have done a quick catch up while waiting for my train to leave Glasgow for Oban. It's a beautiful route so I've stationed myself next to the window - there still seems to be autumn colour around, which is lovely.
I've just got through to the taxi driver on Lismore. It's not pouring yet - but now "feels like minus 3" is being predicted...
There won't be much chance to email while I'm there. Phone signal is a bit hit-or-miss - so have fun and I'll see you all in December!
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Liri - have a wonderful time - hope the weather stays clear for you so you can enjoy the views Hope you've got a camera with you so you can share
I've bubble-wrapped the little greenhouse and the begonias and canna are in there - hopefully they'll be ok but if it gets very very cold OH is aware that they'll have to come into the studio
I've also potted up 30+ Tete a tetes - a dozen in one pot and the rest in another larger one. It's bitterly cold out there and my fingers are freezing. That's enough out there for the day.

Meant to say, I asked OH where the frost jacket for the outside tap is? He had a think .... either in the little shed or the garage. I couldn't remember seeing it in either place - oh 'eck - have we got to buy another one I wondered ........... then I went outside .......... it's in place on the tap ......... it has been there since this time last year

Will do, Joyce. It's a lovely town.
I'm not banking on a lot of sun, to be honest... any good weather is a bonus!

And we've just had the last pear of the four our little espaliered Concorde produced this year - absolutely delicious.
