Checked the greenhouse, I only keep it frost free, but the overwintering tenders are doing OK.
Have bought compost into the conservatory and have filled pots so that the soil can warm up a bit before transplanting seedlings over the next couple of days.
Like everyone else I have been feeding the birds and making sure the ponds doesn't totally freeze over. It's bitterly cold out there.
Apart from feeding the birds I am trying to turn a blind eye to the floppy daffodils, the frozen ground in the veg patch and the messed up lawn from footfall since the snow came. It is due to warm up here after another big freeze and snowfall tonight - only then will inspect the damage and try to repair what I can.
It was -5c last night here in Bath, Somerset and below freezing now - absolute panic though - saw some snowflakes!!
For those of us who had to walk miles to college for 6 weeks in the big freeze of 1962, I do wonder about the hysteria these days.
Just broke my plastic bird bath on the bird feeder again, probably for the third year in a row. Frozen solid so I whacked it against the pole and then wondered why it cracked! Obviously I don't learn from experience but in my defence, I do have a heavy cold so not thinking straight.
I so want to get on and plant things I've got waiting, some bare root raspberries I had to heel in a week or so ago, Richard's clematis is still in a pot and lots of other things. It does look like it will get slightly warmer next week though.
Hasn't got above freezing here today and there's a seriously penetrating cold wind making it feel 10 degrees colder. Nasty weather forecast overnight so we did our shop today instead and came home with a pear tree and some seeds. They are tucked up in the annex - light, insulated but not heated - along with lots of other treasures that I've either not allowed out or have brought in for safety.
Fingers crossed everything else survives. Once the overnight tantrum is over we're set to get to 10C tomorrow pm. A quick thaw may be as bad as bad as a deep freeze.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

We have had a lovely sunny and mild afternoon here. The forecast is for showers for the next few days - hopefully between those showers we will have some sunshine too.
My bird table which blew over and smashed in the wind,is now mended, repainted with preserver and firmly screwed onto a tree stump! Just waiting for the birds to get used to it again. Poundland have bags of dried mealworms, they look delicious! My arch has been erected, and a purple Clematis is one side and a pink climbing rose the other. That's enough for today as the weather is a tad inclement!!
The whole truth is an instrument that can only be played by an expert.
Lifted a Hydrangea which has outgrown it's space going to give it to one of step daughters garden. Moved pots of spring bulbs up from behind the greenhouse where they hider all summer early winter.

G D Better tell him to keep the camera handy as it looks like a lot more snow on Thursday!
I'm fighting a losing battle keeping the water from icing over on the bird bath!
