After chilly start 2.9d its gorgeous, still tiding up, first weeding of the year, tidying greenhouses, as best I can they are full up.Some plants followed me home from the local nursery yesterday, on the way back from shopping, honestly!! A couple of lace cap pollies, Hellibores, white, the other 2 are for a friends Birthday, and a paenie deep pink scented.
Over the last few days I've done a bit of potting on of the tiny plugs that arrived late last summer. They're in 13cm pots now. Also had some bare root geraniums arrive yesterday which I've potted up. At some point soon the grass is going to need cutting
Sowed beetroot seeds and lettuce in modules, planted out more aquilegia and geums (a few varieties of each plant), deadheaded another 50 or so daffs and did a bit of weeding as I went along. Lovely morning.
I've dug everything out of the bigger half of the herb bed (including some tree roots which are closer to the house than I'd like them to be!)- the clumps forming a border of Chinese chives are in a large container in the shade waiting to be replanted. At the weekend OH will dig the big containers of mint out of the end of the bed so that I can rejuvenate them and replant, this time in what has proved to be the damper end of the bed. I've got some sage cuttings waiting to go in the dryer end.
I've hoed the weeds from around the broad beans - they're looking great - 8-10" tall and nice and sturdy, and I've also planted some liatris spicata in the sunny bed.
I've also picked a load of perpetual spinach and Swiss chard to go with sticky Asian-style beef ribs and noodles for our supper.
Now my back is beginning to complain (think that's because of the tree roots) and the sky is clouding over, so I'll call it a day and put my feet up in front of the Cheltenham Festival and get my knitting out.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
All borders now hoed, weeded, edged and so on. Popped behind the fence into the 'medieval hedge' to confirm what's needed and wrote back to the Council re the work needed to be done quite urgently (there's a TPO in force). Wish us luck! Went out to lunch with friends to an excellent pub...now ready for a snooze!
Allotments all day yesterday Rotavated 2/3 of plot, Volunteer day at Capel Manor today worked in Japanese garden planting ground cover (Leptinella squalida).
Anyone got a spare pair of shoulders I could borrow?
