  • Hoped to go to plant "new" strawberry bed today but it's very wet & miserable here so maybe not! Got it all prepared yesterday  so just a case of putting in.

    AB Still learning

  • I bought some Acidanthera in Lidl s today ( still trying to get something in an empty garden at a low cost to start with)   but now read up on them and it says they can take years to flower, and are not perennial, have to lift the corms after flowering in late summer!!

Am l wasting my time? Should I just dump them?

  • Ordered some female holly to go aroung the front of the house, getting males tomorrow.  This will mean buying 3 bags of john innis and improving hardcore with a mattock image

  • The birds love our holly trees Learnincurve - too much - by Christmas time the berries have been devoured!  However the trees are lovely with their year round green leaves.

We planted two new rhubarb plants this morning and another blackcurrant which I had grown from a cutting - we are getting there!

I took delivery of 36 bags of a manure/mushroom compost mix. Spread 4 of them onto areas I've weeded and piled the rest up in the garage. I'm sure the bags got heavier as I moved the last few! image

Slum having moved 26 close board fence panels 50kg each and same number 6 inch concrete gravel boards 25 kg each, I can confirm that fat!  Raining today so gardening will b sowing seeds in greenhouse.

  • Isn't it too early to be sowing seeds Nanny?

I twiddled about in the garden - repotted a couple of Budelia cuttings that I took last year and also some verbena bons. that had outgrown their pots - good to see some things are still alive in my conservatory.

Couple of hrs this morning pruning an ash tree & hellobores

Then went to Allotment for couple of hours , spread out 3 bags of bark clippings on Raspberry bed

Can’t do any more tidying up until garden bin emptied on Thursday , absolutely jammed full from weekends gardening image

  • Ooo don't say that GD, I've got my penstemons on their third set of leaves! I planted Petunias last week, and have got Hollyhocks on the way! They are all along the kitchen window.

Today, although very cold,I arranged a small rockery at the base of the bird bath, and put in 5 of B+Qs best rock plants!  I hadn't got inside the door before the Robin was there investigating! ????

I got some tomato seeds going on the kitchen windowsill today. They'll live indoors, so I reckon I can get away with starting them now.

Still not seeing any movement from my December planted sweet peas. Might need to start off another bunch. Sigh.
