went down wedenesday and put 600 onions in I pinched a idea of I belive it was chris72 about putting then in modules... chris a brilliant idear the roots came out great just made hole larger for them to go in the only thing I did was sieve some compost over the sets in case any holes then I watered them with bio food and washed some compost in holes (fair play to your ideas chris)...on another note my 100 garlic are doing v/well try and get down at weekend and plant parsnips /sprouts a few cabbage and what ever takes my fancy (((ithink I will put them on big trays and some water retaining felt to water for a few days I got some of the new kondor seeds for this year so will try them in a few weeks michael
Bought a new plastic reinforced mini greenhouse cover , to replace the last one that the last gale ripped to pieces , from Wilkos , if that counts as gardening
I have been growing beetroot in modules since Chris72 recommended that way - they were far better than any seed sown ones - much bigger too. I am doing the same this year.
Today I sowed more salad leaves and parsley, potted up 10 bare root strawberries, planted out more geum and aquilegia and helped irrigation man. Been a busy few hours, so resting up now.
I sow a lot of stuff in modules to give it a head start, havent done this with the beetroot, but have had really good crops the past 2 years. I chickend out of the gardening today, we took the dogs right to the top of the Downs this morning, it was lovelly sunny and warm this afternoon the wind has got up, sun gone really chilly, so Hubby took over pruned the big stuff, dug out a head conifer, had a big tidy up (Went to the Tip this morning)
Rescued a few chives that something had dug up. Mum n dad popped over with a big pot of them that they had kindly dug up for me from their garden. Wonder if it was a bird or a squirrel.
Did a bit of reading up of when to sow my runner beans. Might wait until April.
hi gwrs I will try beetroot as we use a lot I was going down today to soak some in water to germinate quicker I have a lot of transplanting to do as the wife did me a lot when I was laid up ..sweet peppers toms are ok but a bit small yet meddenia? chillies are starting to show need about 5/6 leeks are showing very well just a bit more turning over to do and all ready Michael
Not sure if I've done for the day or not?Feel quite lazy
Chopped down a lot of sticks today, stuff is growing quite well and poss left it a bit late in a few cases. Identified areas which need more anti couching, lost control of those beds last year.
Sat some plants on the ground where I intend to plant, made some last minutes amendments to the Plan, have only a surplus Heliopsis from the new purchases and that hasn't arrived yet.
Possibly identified places for some new hellebore I'd like but have forgotten where I planted 3 actaea so need to see where they come up first.
Found a hyacinth I'd somehow planted upside down I had some mouldy bulbs and wanted to see how mouldy they could be and still grow, turns out - quite mouldy...fixed it now, I'm blaming the worms
Nah, get back out there Victoria!, Been gardening a while today, took off my coat, then walked to local post office, couldnt believe how blooming cold nd windy it was. Our garden isnt sheltered, theres a 5 feeet fence all round, we arent overlooked so there are now other properties keeping the wind off. Still mulching (Monty WILL be pleased!)
