Which hardy geraniums did you purchase, Peter? image

All the hostas in pots have been potted on, as has the big oriental lily, my one and only canna,  around a dozen baby clematis, some baby grasses, penstemon cuttings, half a dozen young hellebores and various other bits and bobs - but there's still a load more to pot on.

I've also sowed two lots of sweet peas, attacked the ivy coming through from the rear neighbour's garden, and scattered some FB&B on some beds.

Now it really does feel like spring image

Main job today was the first mow! OH took the risk (I thought it a bit damp still) but it looks good. I could hear other mowers going at it too. The smell is fantastic - would like a candle that captures that!

Removed a couple of winter clematis that haven't done very well, Freckles and Winter Beauty.  Planted Ribes White Icicle. Hubby refelted the woodshed roof.  All in all a good day.  Lots of seeds germinated in the propogator image  Now what can I put in to replace those clematisimage

Nice Peter, they make perfect ground cover. Don't worry about the slugs for wargrave pink, she's left untouched. Cut back in August for a second flush of flowers.

Excellent, thanks mark, they are in big 25 litre containers, hoping to get many years from them. I have found a nursery selling purple haze geraniums but they dont open until april. they have reserved 3 for me image

Little trip to the garden centre for some strawberry plants. 5 for £5.50 so happy with that.

Toying with planting out broad beans that are in modules in the cold greenhouse. They're about a foot high. Wonder if it's too early to plant them out......

Our substantial hypericum was hacked by the missus.  I thought it should be done after flowering but she did it last year at the same time and we had loads of flowers so i couldn't argue!

What do people think is the 'right' time to prune hypericum?  Does it matter?

Also spent the best part of an hour pulling out what felt like hundreds of laburnum seedlings from our two trees ?.

  • Sowed fresh Cosmos seeds as the previous lot of seedlings were leggy and not worth keeping.  I'll never learn  .... just too impatient.
