  • As for others I had hope to get out & do a bit more today but a dusting of snow early yesterday evening (just after nightfall) has frozen solid. Bright sun means it will thaw but I don't think anything like digging will be possible

    AB Still learning

  • Thank you Chrissie

I made enquiries today about Clemmies, and apparently as you say,I'm a bit too early!most places are getting them in at the end of the month,or next month.

Never mind I had quite a good day, planted another Buddlea, and some Liatris for the butterflies and bees. Also this morning I was pleased to see some Great Tits finally coming to the bird table, previously only used by a feisty Robin and his mate, plus one lone sparrow and a female blackbird who picks up bits off the ground below. Fortunately my two cats are not hunters!?

I've just bought what I hope will be a lovely clematis from Richard Hodson, who sometimes posts on here (google on name). He's a clematis specialist apparently and very helpful.

  • Thankyou Lizzie, I 've had a look at that.

Pleased to report this morning that Mr Blackbird has now joined us! Ive put dried mealworms etc on the ground, and they are feasting on them!

Went into B+Q yesterday, they have English Lavender and Rosemary bushes very cheap, for someone just starting from scratch again like me!

Cagzo. Keep an eye on Morrisons. When they start to get plants in again, they usually have common clematis.

  • Thank you Fidget,

I have a Morrison's near me so I will keep an eye open,I need all I can get at the moment,to fill in a huge gap where 11 /12 leylandii trees were felled, revealing this lovely stone wall.

I have a long list of plants that are a must, haven't told hubby about it yet!!!?

  • I have just heard that we are going to get a Morrisons over here soon - do they sell good plants (reading above posts).  How do you rate them compared with B&Q?

We planted out two blackcurrant bushes that I had grown from cuttings - both had a good root system.

Picked up pines cones and small branches first thing after the Gale Force winds last night and early this morning - quite a lot down.

Some Morrisons have the extra 'GC section' which includes a wider variety of plants. You can check on their website as to which have this area. I got lots of £1 9cm perennials there two years ago.

  • Today I mostly spent money. Ordered 2 root!t lights that will sit on top of my propagator lid so now I will be able to grow from seed all year round.

Also T&M finally delivered my elephant garlic about a month late so it won’t clove up like it should do, planted that and had a wander round the garden I like this whole having nothing to do lark.
