I'm in the middle of rose pruning, but 3 days of rain forecast from tomorrow image

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
  • Same as Yvie, I tidied the front garden yesterday as it suddenly occurred to me it was a terrific mess.

Planted out some of my new things today, all but one actually, and planted a deschampsia and a thalictrum rochebrun-something that I bought some while ago but have been sat around on the soil. Moved a nepeta that I don't remember from last yearimage and also some purple monarda into the front. Double checked my planting space list for some orders I've made, only one plant without a space yet, a Veronicastrum Cupid. Might do something cool with it like put it right of the front of the border with something shorter and wider behind.? I've forgotten what colour it is, probably lilac...It could look nice with something orange.

Identified some daffs that will need moving due to changes to pathways. Only tete-a-tetes out at the mo, my least favourite of all the daffs.

Got a humungous pile of sticks sat sat next to the pond now and brown bin isn't emptied for another 4 weeks.?

  • Thanks Verdunimage Yes, it does seem quite blue on images. Have found a potential site, behind the hot helenium patch and a bee's flame lobelia. Seems almost too easy/predictable so will muse on it for a while.

Solved my too many sticks/no bin space problem today by creating this attractive thatch behind the bird table:

Have pruned Madame Alfred Carrière, Meg and a big yellow buddleia, also cut down some old perennials. Took longer clearing away the mess than doing the pruning. At the onset of winter I thought I was more or less up to date, but there is so much to do.

Tidied a sunny dry area on the wall ready for planting and removed the ivy. Re-potted the biggest foxgloves I've ever seen & the leggy canterbury bells
