  • Does sanding pathways and shoveling snow count? image

  • Phew, only 5 panels need a second coat and I’m done.  Did intend to finish the lot this morning but snow stopped play. Amazing the difference a lick of paint makes, garden looks cared for now, with everything being dormant it looked a right state before it - last people never painted the fence and it had gone all bleached and patchy.

  • Snowing here in Wales too, bitterly cold, impossible to venture out for a bit of pottering!

So frustrating as the sun is almost out!  ???

  • Sorry to all those with bad weather, it's turned out surprisingly good here especially when the wind drops. Got some more digging done on 1/2 plot I am doing it very slowly a few lines at a time as I have been having trouble with (what I believe is still called ) tennis elbow for some time. So I do a bit find some other pottering to do then do a bit more. If I had known it was going to be such a good day I would have sprayed my fruit trees with winter wash, maybe Friday if there is no wind.

  • Excuse me one second I just need a moment for some maniacal laughter

”ah hah ha ha ha ha haaa”

After a year of nothing but soul destroying back breaking grind the bones of my garden are in.  Only thing I need to do now is nice jolly stuff like planting and general maintenance.

    Today I:

Finished painting the last part of the fence. (After Four solid days of painting stuff)

Pulled the rest of the rotten wood out of the lawn (someone once thought about putting in borders but only got to the putting cheap wood in the lawn to mark them out stage)

Sorted out and tidied up the Big Pile of rotten lawn wood.

Planted 3 large lilac bushes in an area of the bank that I only just discovered was actually earth and not hardcore and rubble (only unearthed one enormous chunk of concrete which believe you me is a gift In this garden)

Started off my willow cuttings in pots

planted four small honeysuckles by the shed and temporarily tied them to upcycled metal grid tray things.

Put out my as unnamed gnome

Had a cup of tea sat at my outside table set.

realised that the ice on the table indicated that this was a silly thing to be doing but carried on anyway.

  • LOL !!!?????

Well all I did was cut some Ivy out of the dry stone wall for 20 minutes...........that was enough,I was freezing! Never mind sitting out there at the table.......Brrrrrrr

L'curve......I hope you are going to take some time this summer to sit, relax and enjoy your garden after all the work you have been doing.

  • oh you bet’ya I will, last year I occasionally rested on the front step with a brew and asked myself “why am I doing this???”  But now I am thanking past me for less talking about it more doing it.

There is a theory that there are three “yous“. Past you, present you, and future you.  Present you puts a couple of painkillers and a bottle of water by the bed before heading out for a night on the town. Future you thanks past you for doing so in the morning.
