Went to my bargain garden centre yesterday and got two pretty shrubs for £2, three cyclamen for £3 and a 4ft Norwegian Fir for a fiver! :-)
Today I have planted the cyclamen (my OH will plant the shrubs whilst I am at work tomorrow).
We both trimmed back our Portuguese laurel which makes a nice canopy over our BBQ area and I cleaned and disinfected my greenhouse - blinking awful job and I still stink of Jeyes Fluid - but so glad it's done!

  • Got out before ?? set in and did some more tidying up. Cut down two clems I forgot about yesterday and planted out some pansies I bought in a winter bedding pack months back. Cut back a buddlea, I'm trying to leave it quite tall though as my neighbours have built up the height of their decking. Did areas as there was quite a bit of litter and planted out some of the little red valerian plants I grew from seed, potted on the rest for my allotment.

Think that's about it as went to the lotment this after. Brought two feeders in when I got back, have got them soaking. Had to get the pliers to one which had clearly been missed a few times on the cleaning rotaimage

  • Jet washed the patio, wooden swing chair and wooden table and chairs. Took all day  but has been a productive day so am happier than last Sunday when I was feeling as though I was stood at the bottom of a mountain! Read Victoria sponge's update on her allotment adventures and felt very inspired to just get on as Victoria was certainly getting thru some work down at the allotment. I liked mad penguins notes too about gardening being so blooming messy! Yes, round 2 on that score for me too today. Could have done with some goggles for the jet washing. Made the mistake of blasting around the log store and the muck all backfired into my face. Sitting In The bath with a cup of tea! thankyou again fellow gardeners for keeping this one in good spirits and and top of the mountain ahead! (40ft Fence all destroyed down one side from blooming Doris! all tied down with ropes to stop it topping presently) but I'm keeping optimistic ?

  • I prepared my Belfast sink for planting. OH and neighbour positioned it for me this morning - it is standing on some block which I hope to discolour to match the surrounding wall.  I layered the bottom with stones and gravel, then added a mix of compost, sharp sand and grit.  Will top the sink with more gravel after planting - hopefully tomorrow and then will add a picture on here.

Weather too bad for anything outdoors this weekend. I potted up some recently delivered dahlia tubers, planted some free tree seeds my wife got from the woodland trust https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/seeds/ and potted on a couple of foxgloves that were bursting out of their pots. image

First seeds of 2017 sown Yay!!!  I love growing things from seed it's so exciting when the first ones pop up.  Have sown Snapdragons, Diascia and Lobelia.  Lots more to do but need to wait for the heated propogator to do its thing before sowing the next lot.

Ventured out to do a bit of clearing, add stuff to composter and attempt pruning an untidy tree behind the pond. The latter task was a total pain as which ever side I tried to approach it from - the middle bit was always just out of reach! There is nowhere safe to put a ladder near it so it may remain with just a short-back and sides!

I was freezing after messing about with that - didn't realise it was only 5 degrees until went in the car later.

My garden and I live in South Wales.
  • Messed around with my Belfast sink, did a bit of planting in it, but I will have to come back to it in a few weeks time when the weather is dryer, to be sure that the drainage hole is working and not clogged up with gravel and peat.

11 degrees here AuntyRach, but with a strong wind - 5 degrees is touching on painfully cold for me to be gardening.
