A lovely sunny day. Transplanted 3 large clumps of snowdrops, planted 4 Saracocca and 3 jasmine nudiflorum. made guards for the shrubs as the rabbits are a major nuisance here.
It is not sunny in Cheshire. I have been clearing up after cutting back the Fatsia Japonica. Then I attacked the Aucuba off shoots growing in front of it. It has to be kept under control. I have come in for rest.
Does anyone want about 7 rooted off sets of Aucuba.? No I did not think so. I will try freecycle.
I have done my days good deed and teased a small seedling of primrose or cowslip out of the clump of invasive lemon balm plant I was throwing out. Less vigorous gardening needed this afternoon.
It is mild and not raining, that has to be a good thing.
Lovely this morning, sunny and warm Felt very springy.
First of the crocus have opened, bulbs appearing everywhere.
Tidied up and swept down the side of the house, used the leaf/soil debris and emptied some pots into a few dips and holes. Manured the roses, and did a bit of planning, moved a few things. Decided the aquilegia have bored me long enough and moved them out their prime positions into some awkward areas. I think I ought to like aquilegia, but somehow I just really don't.?
The honeybees in my chimney have survived their second year, seen them buzzing around the chimneypot today.
Pretty much spent my spring plant budget now, haven't ordered everything yet but I know what I'm getting and know for the most part where it is going
Got out and pruned my Roses , and had a look at all the snowdrops , crocus , and iris that have started to flower. I even have tulips coming up in some pots , at last it feels like spring
I have planted some more seeds today, Cleome, Marigolds and cherry pie (Heliotrope).Took the fleece off my pots so that the hardy annual seeds that I planted in the autumn and the bulbs get a bit of warmth. Plan to power wash the patio and decking over the next couple of days. Not garden related but Pilates in the morning, badminton at lunchtime and oh I have an interview tomorrow afternoon for a local administrator job, my fingers crossed.
Today was the first 'proper' gardening day this year for me. I have cleared a huge amount of dead foliage and done some pruning so now the new growth can burst into life.
I must be more organised with my garden waste this year - I need to divide it into: compostable, stick/ twig pile, garden recycling bin and stuff for the chipper. I went a bit wild today and have just ended up with 2 wheelbarrows and a 'Hippo' bag full of mixed stuff... must be more disciplined!
Got lots done today, emptied out two half barrels ready to fill with new compost. Weeded the borders and removed the last of the dead perennial foliage. Pruned half the roses and raked in FBB on all the borders. Edged the lawn. Still have a fair bit to get done but as it's half term I'm hoping to finish the spring prep and get going with some seed planting.

Cleared a place to put a redcurrant and gooseberry bush in the front garden.

Planted the gooseberry bush, waiting for redcurrant to arrive next month. Helped hubby to cut back the pyracantha hedge.
Fed the rhubarb and put compost around them. Watered the seedlings.
