Anyone done any gardening today - version 3

  • I got the dang thing moved, it’s now what I stand on when potting and the treacherous dip has now been filled in. Moved a couple of young trees to the area it was. Also planted a red leaf peach in a big pot. Tomorrow I’m going to plant the first part of my new flowering shrub hedge out the front. Phew.

  • Had a lot of gardening on my list for today but the layer of snowflakes is too thick for most of my plans.

Instead put up 5 trellis covering the last stretch of fence I've got allocated for climbers. I've got two houses overlooking me from the side (not that my neighbours stand staring out their windows) but I think it will be a nice background screen for a seating area, got taller plants in between as I don't want to shade their gardens.

Planted in pots some iris and crocus bulbs that were sprouting in the shed and poked a part bag of anemones into any patch of mud not covered in snow.

Put a bag of cheese out for the birds, at least 12 blackbirds visiting but they are hard to count with all the bouncing around and squabbling.

Hope everyone else had fun, is it spring yet in anyone's garden????

Have done almost nothing today, snowed again, thought it was supposed to be melting but no sign as yet...

Mostly did wild bird admin, prepped some feeders in case I need to replace any mid week. Finally got around to ordering a bird bath for the front garden, couldn't make a decision for a while. Hoping it will look nice amongst the grasses and new persicaria I've planted. image

  • Like you Victoria, couldn't get in the garden today,a mix of rain and sleet!

My Robin is guarding the territory from all and sundry,it's just Mrs blackbird that won't be hurried off!

I have Hollyhocks just through, plus Sweet peas, all on the kitchen window! This is a new patch for me,the first time without a greenhouse, and the whole garden had been sadly neglected, but found a few surprises under all the junk!

Must send for an RSPB pack,to encourage the birds.

Did anyone else see Countryfile yesterday, they featured a group counting wildflowers  flowering in winter,  that should be flowering in late spring / summer. It's quite a big survey & guess what the incidences are accelerating. It's not climate change of course because the Donald says that's fake news image

I did  go to the Allotments yesterday in  the snow,  but only to get the last bag of Spuds from the shed. Glad I had put some parsnips in damp sand in shed as well. Did cut a stem of sprouts as well then beat a hasty retreat.

  • I took advantage of it not being wet to sweep all the paths that I muddied up myself by gardening when it was wet. Tidied up back garden that had become a staging area for everything else so now it resembled a proper back garden again.

Spent ages planning the flowering bush hedging I’m ordering tomorrow.  Going with Mock orange, lilac and Buddha for height along the front and then more rustic on both sides.

I am envious of those who are able to garden just now.

Everything here is far too wet.
