Yes, more leaf clearing, sooooo many leaves this year, more than ever before, but few acorns? We have eight oak trees in our back garden, they are beautiful, but my goodness they don't half dump some leaves....i have no room left on the compost heap, so have had to bag and take away now. Bulbs are popping up in my pots and under the oaks, so exciting to see spring approaching. I did make a real effort this year to plant bulbs, especially camassia which i love and rarely see, and alliums, lots of alliums, can't wait ?
This pic was taken before christmas, i think this was about 7 loads from the mower basket!
Hi slum, love your bug house and your raised beds, i find that is the best way for me, so much so i have bought 2 more for this year. I just dig them over and throw in a bag of bought compost and mix with my own and they work a treat. What do you plan to grow this year?
This pic shows one bed,i have two more and have cut back the greengages so i can have 2 more in the
space underneath. I find i can weed kill around the beds and keep walkways clear this way?
I know tootles, but my compost heap is huge, it will make lovely compost but will take a while... loved your rose arch on the other thread, we planted one at Christmas
i don't have a propagator, maybe later when/if i retire ( 10 years ) i'll have more time. However, broad beans are sprouting in my cold greenhouse, along with oriental lily bulbs....my pots of bulbs are sprouting outside too, so exciting.....how can anyone not love gardening?
Loana - planting plans are still unresolved. It is not the sunniest of spots but does get a bit in the afternoon. Some of it is going to be for cut flowers, I will probably try some dahlias and some annuals. I might also use some space as a nursery bed. Pathways are going to be membrane covered in road planings - I'm getting 20 tonnes to lay on the driveway so there should be some spare. Busy weekends ahead!
Ah thanks Loana. I treated myself to the heated prop a couple of years ago and it's brill! Everything germinates so quickly - the hardest part is keeping up!
i have broad beans on the go too. They are in the cold greenhouse and we're all bent over and frozen this morning. I'm hoping they will be ok when they thaw out!
i agree - role on retirement! It'll be quite a few years for me yet unless I win the lottery!

Loana - you have the most beautiful house - I love it!!
Unfortunately I have been stuck at work and have literally only ventured into the garden for about 2 minutes this morning to throw the tea bags on the compost heap - but the OH has been working his little socks off this week topping out the fir trees at the bottom of the garden, relevelling a new fence and burning all of the rubbish that we can't shred.
The garden is looking pretty tidy already so have a good start to the spring. The bulbs are peeping through and I am getting very excited for the longer days!!!!!

Made a little bug house this week-end after seeing one in GW magazine.
Also started on the redesign of this area.

Oooooh, all those lovely leaves to compost!
After sorting out my seeds I had a quick potter to try and magic up some more space for planting. Loads of things have buds on which is so lovely.
Tempted to get the heated propogator out but I fear it is too early.
