  • Pruned apple trees, levelled off an area ready to be turned into a rock garden, potted up some plants. Tested soil, heavily alkaline in places, mildly alkaline in others which tallys with all the rubble and clay areas.

awful landscaping at the front is complete huzzah, now I can create my new bed at the back without anyone being able to see me.

  • How lucky are you Doghouse Riley having so many self seeded snowdrops. I planted some but yet to see evidence of growth. However well done on getting to grips  with your Acer. It looks a handsome specimen now cant wait to see it in leaf later on.

I however are chomping at the bit to get out there but currently full of flu and no energy yet.I have received two blueberry plants yesterday and as I only have a small garden with no greenhouse space I intend to grow them in pots. (1 is blue and the other is pink.) So I look forward to planting them up and keeping them in a frost free  area until the weather improves. Always something to look forward to this time of year

  • It is frustrating when you can't get out even though there are jobs to be done, and at least something to look forward to doing when you are well again Dorascents.

I cleared another patch of the raised wild flower bed this morning. The weather was good for gardening and I couldn't decide whether to put my warm winter jacket on or the thinner jacket - as I kept on the move. Mostly the surface of the patch is full of dead vegetation, but I know when I start disturbing the soil I will find bind weed roots. That's another problem to solve!

  • I will soon get cracking once I get started.I only have a small town garden here in Wrexham North  Wales but it keeps me well occupied, tidying up and keeping on top of weeds (albeit I don't have too many as I have so much in the garden) I have vegs in planters such as potatoes, Runner beans, radish, lettuce. Cucumbers and tomatoes. I grew lambs lettuce last  year which I were very pleased with, cant understand why I didn't plant more this time.  I spend time planting up 4 hayracks with trailing basket plants which I enjoy together with tubs and planters.Always looking for and thinking up new ideas/planting schemes, but not sure I  have space to change much at the moment.

I don't  envy you coming across bindweed, Hope you manage to eradicate most or all of it. I remember my Dad had problems with it many years ago. Good luck with that

  • Hi Doghouse Riley, Thank you for showing your Acer in leaf. I tend to agree the pink is beautiful, as is your garden.  I can see you are passionate about it. Keep it up.

  • Feeling a bit poorly so just removed some silly rotten wood that had been put into the lawn by somone who did not follow through with creating a border.  Hoed the weeds out of a new bed in the back and planned where I would be planting stuff. Tomorrow I’ll dig out the paviing slabs under the lawn I think.

  • Just shoveling snow .....well now sweeping as I'm not allowed to shovel anymore .....

  • Well where do you live Dachalover to have snow like that. Looks lovely, and Learning curve I sympathise,as I am under the weather also. It's awful when your not well and really want to get out and do something. I did venture outside for short while to peruse, and plan .Checked plants in my small poly 'green house' to find all ok.  I noticed also to my pleasure the number of buds opening on the 'Winter Beauty Clematis and some fragrance to,so pleased with this but I think it may outgrow the planter I have it in.
