Between the heavy showers OH has dug another metre of border and I have fed the birds and collected up twigs from the storm last night. Forced to stay inside (due to the weather) so had to spring clean a few more cupboards and then relax.......
Not long back from Allotments. Very cold winds but at least bright & sunny (mostly). Spent most of time measuring up for new shed roof, but managed a bit of rough digging again in spite of my fathers voice in my head telling me " its's too wet you'll do more harm than good". By rough we mean just turning over in lumps will bash them down with rotary cultivator in the spring. Gotta do it sometime dad.
I went up to check in my allotment and of course that’s when it started lashing ice water down. Bought some manure back for my veg bed. Also potted up a patio magnolia and did some online plant shopping for a weeping cherry and a baby weeping cedar that I am going to train so it does loop the loops round a stake.
Tomorrow have a couple of small trees that need moving to a more sheltered position so they can grow on a bit but that slab is right where they need to be.
That's a bother Learnincurve - how are you going to overcome the slab problem?
OH dug a bit more of the veg. patch today, and then we moved an hydrangea into what I hope will be it's final destination along our newly dug and fertilized border - we are getting there. Also moved a clump of ginger plant into the new border. We will be planting some new trees along this area too in a month or so.
I’ll move it by getting really cross with it and channeling my anger into brute force Lol. I have a work bench with a long plywood top on it that I made that lives along the back of the house, the patch of grass near it is getting trashed so I’ll move the slab there and fill in the rest of the dip with the top soil from that spot. Unless of course when I dig down I find there is another slab in that spot as well which is a possibility because I know of two more that are under the lawn already.
Dug out two bin bags full of Spanish Bluebell bulbs. Not planted by me I hasten to add. Some of them are as big as Hyacinths. Taking them to the tip and hope they end up in the incinerator and not landfill.
Would be a shame to ruin it I think. what this garden lacks in the basics it more than makes up for in broken concrete, hardcore, and bricks. I would probably be better off paving the back garden and importing soil to raise the beds, but it would be impossible to get it up the steep bank my house sits on. Ah well, every day is a new adventure and at least I’m getting very very fit.
As already mentioned the trick is not to lift it. Use stout wood or metal bar to lever it up & wedge underneath. Then raise one end & "walk it " to where you want it or to a place where it can be taken away from.

If you want to get rid of the slab put it on freecycle. People are always looking for odd slabs.
