No idea Joyce. It's about 5' tall now and produced very good foliage colour already so I don't mind waiting for the flowers. Just between you and me I'm not that keen on yellow flowers in trees and shrubs so I'm hoping, when they do arrive, these will be the softer yellow I've seen in images online.
Our mimosa trees are about to burst into bloom and I find that yellow very hard and acid, especially against the glaucous blue/green foliage.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

Luckily, one of the two big mimosas is hidden behind the ruin but has an inordinate number of babies below. I may well dig some up to make a screen between us and the cowsheds of next door's farm as, except when in flower, they'll be a lot prettier and the farmer's wife likes the flowers.

Had to snigger at learnincurve's slab digging adventure, sorry The previous occupants of this house buried stuff all over the garden, including windows and some blue ceramic bathroom stuff.
Had a productive weekend, full of good ideas yesterday, decided to move a phormium out the middle of a bed where it wasn't displayed to its best, thought it would look good between my unfinished pond extension and old brick path and it does Replaced it with 3 newish asters, that's 6 all together in the same bed, not very imaginative but I find I don't mind.
Moved some eremurus, never done that before, but I dug one up by accident and thought since the bed was infested with weeds I should dig them all up and do it properly. Some couch grass roots had actually grown right through the tentacles, had to pull them out. Couldn't they have gone around? Will see how the moving went later this year I suppose.? Also spilt a grass for the first time, only because there was a great willowherb stuck in the middle and I couldn't wrench it out. Hopefully the right time to split grasses was today.
Made a block paving area under the bird feeders for easy cleaning and refilling. Moved some plants around, not got much left to do now, just a little rowan and a huge buphthalmum and some bulbs in the the way of my new pond beach.
Bagged up some top-mud to take to the allotment next weekend and had a tidy-up as the bulbs are coming up in the lawn and there were bags of stones and weed debris all over. Got a snowdrop and a crocus bud, yippee, it's nearly spring??
Victoria - you are fortunate to have the weather for gardening. As well to take advantage of it when you can. Look forward to a pic later in the year of the changes you have been making.
I didn't do any gardening today, but I did some yesterday. I planted an old rose, 'Marie Louise'. I also transplanted some snowdrops. I have 'Ginn's Imperati', which has bulked up well and I had 11 small bulbs to put in. They had ended up underneath the leaves of a hefty Bergenia and although they kept flowering, I could never see them. I also had to transplant another one which was in too shady a spot and has stopped flowering, so I can't remember what it is! I am waiting for a herbaceous Clematis to arrive and also a Daphne. I still have some very heavy moving to do--a pot needs to be moved...
i tidied up a bed of strawberries. Forked over the raised beds. Planted 2 onion sets. Drained a smithy tub that has become water logged. Pruned some mint. Trimmed back ivy coming in from the adjacent field.
noticed it was still quite light at 3-4pm. Roll on Spring!
Well I started a little gardening work( if you can call it that)I had some cornflower seeds as a gift for Christmas which I planted a few weeks ago as per instructions, and kept them on kitchen window sill. I have never ever had any joy with growing from seed but thought I would try again. I have seedlings 1inch tall and thought yesterday that I would thin them out . I put them into individual sections of a plug planter gently watered them and placed on the windowsill. Today alas 50% f the seedlings have wilted. I guess I will wait a day or so to see what happens. So disappointing. Not sure if I have not planted the seedlings deep enough? I planted them so the soil has covered the roots. I did keep half the seedlings back in original grow medium just in case. Any advice please would be appreciated.
Today I didn't do anything in the garden but had thinking and planning time and debating whether I need new planters for my 2 new blueberry plants 1 being a blue and the other a pink berry. I have 2 square pots I may use, both about 12 inch deep and square that I may use. Otherwise I have 2 other containers 12 inch square but 18inch deep, These do have some spring bulbs in so I would have to wait until they have finished. Pheww. This decision making is hard work.

Yes. I prefer a more subtle yellow.

The slab in question, it was where the lavender now is..
I loved being in the garden today.

Yesterday, just dry enough to do some late leaf clearing & also to divide & move a sedum. Too wet today to do anything.
