  • I went out at 730am before the rain started this morning, wrapped up in my woolies and gradually thawed out along with the ground before the rain started.

Was out doing some more digging to level out the back of my garden and also built one of the veg raised beds which will be going along the flatten area.

Now I've built one I'm hoping to put it in place so I can start using some of the soil I'm moving to fill it up. It's bigger than I was expecting ?

The same here in Bath, although it did dry up a bit about 4 pm - not enough to tempt me out. However my new Burgon & Ball Ladies Claybreaker Spade arrived, so thanks Learningcurve for that recommendation. Thanks also to Richard Hodson for the lovely new Clematis Mandschurica which also arrived earlier in the week. Now I can use the spade to dig the hole for the Clematis - weather pemitting!

Lovely day here on the Notts / Lincoln border. It's cold out but bright and fresh.

I've done a big tidy of one of the front borders. Dug up lots of brazia that had self sown and moved some snowdrops that were hidden. Weeded some of the gravel drive.  Potted up some Lilly of the valley that I got from wilko's, as well as fresia bulbs and a white pom Pom dahlia.

Just come in for a sandwich and will now head back out to tidy up a bit more.

  • I have twice got booted and bodywarmered, only to get out there and be bombarded with hail, sleet and snow!!  I only got as far as inspecting the garden bench to see if it needed a coat of preserver, and yes it does!

I've given up now!  Really fed up!  But l guess it IS only Feb!????????

Ive been out again today, more digging and a little bit of weeding. Now have the very first bit of the levelled section complete with raised bed now added. This will become my veg area. The tree stump behind is staying, no chance of digging it out, taken away as much of the rotten bits as possible and leaving the rest for the insects to continue working at.

in front of the sleeper I've now place my teeny tiny pond bit and going to make a minture dry river bed form the stone at the fence to the pond ?

Hopefully my plans will come together.

    Lots more digging to do!

I potted up some dahlias, gypsophila, agapanthus. I put the ranunculus in water to plump up from the shrivelled little claws in the bag. They will get planted tomorrow. Its snowing now.

  • I like the sound of that Claybreaker spade, Lizzieimage I think that's what I named my fork by Faithfull, I didn't know it was a real brand.

I actually like that stump MissKittyKat, I think that would look nice planted around. I bought stumps as I don't have any trees or stumps of trees and last year I noticed digging wasps drilling into them, pretty coolimage Is that a cat litter tray by the way? I have a couple I use for things in the garden, they are really handy. (Sorry if it's notimage)

I had some pond plants delivered this week and although the pond was more mushy than frozen really didn't want to put my hands in there so I have potted them up instead. A giant marsh marigold, one called honeydew and three colours of flowering rush which I've bought before but I think got overcrowded.

This morning while my car was defrosting I thought I'd quickly move a small Berberis, it wanted to live in the sun. Dug up a linaria, pink I think and an aster called Harrington's Pink or similar and squeezed it in there. Planted the other things elsewhere.

This PM I used some of the waste clay from my pond to raise the level of a small waterbutt.

Not a great deal left to do now other than tidy the shedsimageimage

    See original post

Youve given me an idea Victoria Sponge, the stump can become a bug house, much better than me keep looking to buy one.

I was thinking of just putting a load of wild flowers down behind the raised bed but think the soil is too good.  Current growing some stipa from seed so maybe it will become a grass area but defiantly open to suggestions.

Yes it is a cat litter tray, just the perfect shape and size for what I wanted ?
