Love your hellebores aym and the beautiful robin pics, lovely. I went to a plant auction with my friend last week, it was fun, not so cheap though....i bought 10 hellebores at a £1 each, about 3-4" pots, mostly white but pretty, will try and take pics. Isn't it exciting, a lot of bulbs are coming up, my broad bean seeds have sprouted in cold greenhouse....so looking forward to spring...my hubby has porridge with raisins every morning, don't like it myself.....very cold in the east today ?
Hi aym, i believe it is held every monday at G A Keys auction house at Aylsham, in Norfolk. My friend bought dogwood, cherry tree, 3 big hellebores for £10, clematis were £2 each, i bought 2 standard azaleas, about 14" tall £5 for the two, plus they had bags of bulbs, 5x allium purple sensation 50p, its not huge by any means and you won't know what will be there until the day, they also had sacks of potatoes and other veg. Plus a general auction on another barn, furniture, bric a brac etc. If you do go, there is a lovely tea shop called 'the olde tearoom' just across from the auction, lovely home cooked soup, lunch and cakes
Yes, lots to see in Norfolk aym, you should come in june and visit East Ruston vicarage gardens, Alan Gray, they are 32 acres of beauty, in june they have a plant open day, with lots of stalls and the gardens are open, lovely tea shop....heaven ?
Loana - several of us have visited East Ruston a few times - put it into the search tool and see the photos. We're more than likely to arrange another visit some time this year. Good scones too
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
We are sick of sunshine. And it's winters!!! Was disappointed that we didn't have many foggy days this year. This rain makes up for it. Last rain was in September.
I wish you could smell the fragrance of Amazon lily. It's Lovely!!!
I fill empty spare pots with coleus and football lily in summers. They are no fuss and easy to propagate. In autumn, all are thrown away except on pot and bulbs are planted in them. This one pot I use to fill these pots again in summers. Have you tried propagating them from stems, aym??? It's the easiest thing in the world!!!
Why is your mum dying??
Thats exactly why I love kalanchoe. They are drought tollerant as well and bear our 45°C summer very well. Got cuttings of pink and yellow kalenchoe too, this year. Expect to see flowers next year. Do share your kalanchoe pics too
Very little compost in the pot, less than half a fistful. The soil is reasonably well draining. I took the shot right after a shower. What can go wrong? Can they rot? What should I do?

Vishu - the Amazon lily is lovely.
I'm a bit concerned about the hyacinths in rain soaked compost . . .
Thanks Joyce.
