The Thunbergia are annuals, grown from seed in small pots and then dropped in. They will not survive the winter, they are currently growing up lily stems and the dierama.

The Acnistus is growing in a crack against next doors house wall, it self seeded there from some I had in the front garden. It is very sheltered there.

The banana is in a huge pot, it gets its leaves cut off, wrapped in fleece and goes in the greenhouse and kept dry for the winter.

Thats a very pretty dianthus AYM

If we have a mild winter, Acnistus survived three years in my front garden, but the year we had minus 15 frost it finished them off. The current one is in the wrong place really, I would like to move it but it wouldn't survive the move and I would have to break concrete to do it. Try a packet of seed from Chiltern. Its not a lot of money,  if they survive the first winter they will flower the second year. My front garden is more sheltered than the back, the garden is on a slope , frost rolls towards the house on the back, and then round it and down the road. The front garden is sheltered but quite shady, it only gets morning sun.

Ooooh. I want some of those Aster frikartii ' Monch'. Beautiful things. Asters are the harbinger of colder weather and hot chocolate and, sadly, aching thumbs.

  • Turned very cold here and it has been throwing it down for days so not been out much, here are a few snaps of my Dwarf Asters I grew from seed that started to flower last week.

Great new shots on the thread since my last visit, wish I had more room to fit in some of the beauties I have seen here.

  • There are some beautiful flowers on this site, and the photographers are pretty sharp too. As this site is called MY Flowers I will have to discard many of the interesting photos that we have taken around the island of various plants and flowers. So here are a few taken recently from our own garden.image1. That ginger lily is so tropical looking. Fabulous.

  • Thanks Ceres and aym - and yes I am very pretty, well that's what I keep telling myself - it works a treat! The Lily Belladonna seems to appear in every other persons garden.  The flower dies down completely later in the year, but after the flower the leaves appear - odd isn't it? We used to have approx 100 in our garden but lost a lot when the digger moved in to make a trench for services. However there are a few left and they multiply very quickly.imageRudbeckia Toto Gold
