Iamweedy "If it is forbidden to propagate your Japanese Aneneome what are your supposed to do about all the self seeding that will go on?"

"Propagation Forbidden" means you cannot propagate a plant and SELL it for profit. You can propagate it for your own garden.

Nicotiana self seed?I never knew that. Mine are all in pots, should I scatter the seeds in the flower bed or another pot to get some next year?!

I'd read if you underplant roses with marigolds, it keeps away the aphids and also that marigolds cleanse the soil and keep away non-beneficial nematodes. Whether that's true or not I have no idea but that's why I did that.

I just asked where you live on the photo thread aym! Because you said you like Norfolk.

I've been using home-made plant supports like Papi-Jo's for years. Alan Titchmarsh showed how to make them years and years ago. But the ones I used on the autumn anemones were too wide and not tall enough.

No I don't run a gite, but I did B&B for a few years some time ago. I have an old French farmhouse.

My clump of three. These were in small pots when I bought them. None of my other heuceras have flowers left. Worth buying.

  • Fab flowers everyone, lovely to see all the warm colours when it is brass monkey weather. Here are a few recent shots.

Took this one 3 days ago of the dwarf asters progress. Yesterday when I went out they were gone, someone took a shine to them and stole them along with the planter from the wall. I don't know why anyone would bother the planter was going to be chucked once the flowers were finished as it was old and sunbleachedimage

My only Dwarf Glady to flower, my fault as theres not enough light in my situation, I won't be growing these next year.

I think this is a Michaelmas Daisy it was an unmarked plug plant I got last year so the first of the flowers, it is full of powdery mildew which is a shame.

  • It was on the back yard wall aym280, 6ft up. I put it there as I was out of room and for a bit of late colour. I had cornflowers, red campion, oyeeye daisy and clover for the bees in the same place all year that I seeded the autumn before and it was left alone. The asters had been up there a couple of months as it is a nice sunny spot. Sorry to hear you have had plants dug out, what goes on in these peoples headsimage Will grow some more next year closer to the house and hope to get a pale pink.image

  • Nothing else as far a I can tell aym280. Like you said they must have passed by and fished it off but I will be wary. The burglary sounds horrendous, such a violation of personal space and then adding insult to injury with the bleach. It is a horrible thing to do to someone and has far lasting effects. I don't think those that steal from peoples houses have the capacity for empathy or a conscience. How do they sleep at night? Sorry to hear you have had such troublesimage.

How did you kill the collarette dahlias Aym? Was it by leaving the tubers in the ground throughout winter?

Sorry about your planter of asters Bloodrose. I do worry about my planters on the front drive. What on earth are people thinking when they steal planters. Can't believe it.
