Morning all. Lashing here with the promise to clear up. We'll see.

I listened to a lot of the diary extracts from the Somme yesterday FG. Heartbreaking. We can't even begin to imagine.

    Happy gardening/drying out everyone.

    Morning all.

    Temporarily sunny here as well.

Today, I have decided, that I must have some Welsh blood in me, somewhere.

Just remembered that on Monday, I have to spend 5 hours at a correctional facility, on a driver speed awareness course. Well I suppose I was a naughty boy, [ cue Dove's spanking icon.]

    Have a good day.

    Morning all.

Saw this on local tv last night. One for every man killed on the first day of the Somme. I blubbed massively.

The serving soldier who laid the last one said he was talking to one of his fellow soldiers.

" If you take the first four rows, that's how many we lost in 10 years in Bosnia, this was one day"

What a hideous waste of life.

    Blubbing again.

    bye

    Devon.

My grandfather and great uncle were at the Somme - I have my gt uncle's little pocket bible that he took with him, with his pencilled names of the villages/battlefronts - Ypres, Arras, Lens, Vimy and Mons and notes he made. They both returned home but were damaged in one way or another and died quite young, before I was born.

    Morning all

Dove - I believe its recommended to leave freshly delivered ironing board covers in a cool dark place for several days so they can acclimatise before you open themimage  Bit like hardening off plantsimage

sunny here, but blustry (said Poohimage).  Got the final lot of plants to pot on, a bit of pottering to do, and then some tennis to watch.  Was considering going up to People's Sunday, but all my usual playmates are away or busyimage

Loved Waterperry on Thursday - off to post some pictures now.  I have a new plant on my wishlist - Filapendula - and I now have a positive ID on my double, super scented philadelphus (brought from cuttings from my last garden).   They were filming there too, so will keep an eye open - one of the old former garden school pupils and the lady who designed the modern slavery garden at this years Chelsea.  But apart from that had the place to myself - it was blissimage

Pdoc, friend's son was on that course last week and he said it was very good (had been 80mph at Penrith)

Fairy, I'm with you on the Americanimage

I have taken school pupils to the battlefields and cemeteries of WW1 and the visits have a profound effect on the teenagers. The evening ceremony at the Menin Gate really leaves a lasting impression.

I know you don't care for Jeremy Vine Dove, but yesterday he was talking to many relatives of men who were there. The stories were heartbreaking. As you say, the ones who came home were damaged beyond repair. One who had been destined to be a priest, and when he came home, his faith was destroyed, and he became a mechanic instead. in the words of his great grandson, he never recovered. A broken man for the rest of his life. I was weeping just like you Hosta.

We really don't know how fortunate we are, whatever hardships and pain we've had.

Is it Manteau d'Hermine chicky? I have a couple of them - by accident. Should have been summat else. Had it before and didn't get the scent, but these have been superb  image

Happy Saturday everyone! image its NOT raining! image yet! image

Runny, sorry to hear about the accident silly twit of  chap behind you! Hope your not too sore and recover quickly x

Dove, think Chicky is right about the ironing board cover, but I think its cuz it needs to breath and adjust to room temperature, image ironing is banned at the weekend anyway and we wouldn't want you to get a fine!

Two brandy coffees got my brain back from work and through the road rage that our council have caused by synchronized road repairs throughout the town! Pleasant evening reading, watching Monty and getting nagged by the cats. This weekend is dedicated to pottering and doing whatever! Love those kind of days! image I have Tuesday and Thursday off next week so not even dreading Monday too much! Practising staying in bed Dove, but second coffee is needed.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Have a restful weekend Wonks. I intend having one too as the weather's not favourable for walking unless I go to Sutherland! Loads to do in side anyway and that tennis doesn't watch itself you know...image
