Did a little light deadheading and watering first thing and moved the car. Car thermostat said 33C at 10am...
The wind has really picked up now which is not good for the garden when it's this hot and we've had no rain for a couple of weeks. The shrubs in my woodland border (under a mature ash & copper beach) are starting to look a little droopy so I may have to do some serious watering if they don't pick up when it cools down. Most of them have been in situ for about 4 years now so they should be starting to look after themselves. Would somebody like to tell them that please?
Not planning to do very much at all today - last really hot day so might as well use the excuse while I can
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Runny, don't stay away too long, Clari your poor soul a cold in this heat is not fun, Pat how is HRH
laughing at all the grannie comments, my mother in law was fantastic but we went to Oz when kids under 5 so was dependant on fab network of mums all there for each other.
as some know my daughter and gd moved from Hong Kong to Moscow and now thro illness come back regularly to London I come down from SW Scotland as often as poss and in fact here just now to help, wee one was at hospital this morning and had a good report so we thrilled D is expecting so this heat is uncomfortable Daughter is so grateful Son is here too with dil and gd so we got together in the park ( along with thousands others!) yesterday

Oh Fairy forgot to say OH didn't get up to town today as there was an immense storm and woof number 1 was shaking so much he couldn't leave her as it felt too cruel.

Very hot and close (still 29C outside) & lots of upstairs furniture being moved at the moment. It's gone quite dark so let's see if we get some rain - will be a bit of a relief if we do.

B'man - the thunder started just before I left the house, and the lightning and torrential rain arrived on the way to work, and we had a good bit through the morning there
It was very humid when I was expecting youngest fairylet. Older fairylet was very good and didn't complain about not getting outside during the summer as I couldn't cope with it.
Glad all is well with small person LP. Always a relief to have good news.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
LP the forecast is good for the next few days in this area so you may be lucky. Having said that, we got off lightly today. Thunder, lightning and drizzle at 8.30am then lovely, warm and sunny, with a gentle breeze, til 5.30 when drizzle started.
New F/F being delivered on Saturday thank goodness
We had a lovely late afternoon and early evening lazing and reading in the garden, had supper on the terrace and we were just going to settle down to another game of chess on the terrace when there was a huge rumble of thunder - a few more and we came in to pull the windows to so that the windowsills didn't get wet ... However we've only had a light shower so far and now the sky is full of lovely low golden light .......... but ..........time for GW folks ..............
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Evening all, Busy day today sorted out grandchildren this morning and then came home to find our bedroom and bathroom full of wasps. I don't mind them but hubby was having a hissy fit as he is terrified of them. We called someone in to check for a nest and by the time he came at 12.00 we had about 50 of them in the house. They were apparently getting in at the top of the bay window and living under the floorboards. I'm afraid they had to go.
Was in such a flap that I forgot both my phone and camera when I went to Wightwick Manor so no photos. Nevermind it's only about 30 mins from where I live so I'll pop over again in the not too distant future. It was lovely but very, very hot. On the way back called into Ashwoods and bought a new hydrangea 'Elegance' a lovely white one for a relatively shady spot at the top of the garden, should show up well in the evenings.
Did some deadheading, cutting back and feeding this evening when it went cool.
The bad new is I think I have caught Clari's cold. Feeling shivery, sneezy and headachey. Was supposed to be looking after Jonah tomorrow but don't want him to catch a cold as he is still very little.
The big news is that I am having some of the very large conifers taken down at the bottom of the garden. The man is going to check for nests and if everything is OK he will take them down next Tuesday. A bit worried as I will be overlooked but it will make the garden seem so much bigger as they have spread such a lot since they were topped. Should have even more space for new plants
Some rumbles here but only a few drops of rain. Clouds have all rolled by now.
I've had a very hot and smelly day playing with chairs - sanding down and cleaning and feeding so lots of turps, white spirit, methanol and then oil. Lovely cool shower to get all clean and fresh again but have to start again tomorrow. More sanding etc before I can paint them.
I'm convinced appliances know how to pick their moments. Our first dishwasher chose to flood the kitchen the day before a couple of friends and a family of 5 pitched up for a long weekend the first July we were here. National building holiday period so 3 weeks till I could get it looked at. The freezer died 6 weeks later on a hot August weekend with a party on the agenda.....
Recording GW to watch in peace later.

Has been cooler today, though still warm and there were a couple of showers late afternoon.
Have picked flowers in my cutting bed, will post pics. Haven't done much, hot weather is tiring and it's holiday time anyway.
