We have two old boys, ( I'd say 70s ) who come into Waitrose. Brothers who seem to have lived all their lives on the same farm.
The first time I heard them speak to one of my colleagues, I asked if that was Cornish they were speaking. After much laughter, he said " No, English!!"
I served one at the check out once..... I just nodded and smiled. Whew, got away with it.
Meat raffles - now then - that was another new one on me 30 years ago - and I'm pretty sure there are a few places in W Yorkshire where you can still buy a ticket
Heaven is ... sitting in the garden with a G&T and a cat while watching the sun go down
Laughing at all the 'accent' tales. Kitty's is rather disturbing though. What is wrong with some people? I often have to ask English people to repeat themselves on the phone at work. Does that make me racist? It's just ridiculous
As someone who's Dad was a Londoner - but never really lost his accent - I often can't understand other Scottish people either ...
It always made me smile when my Dad used a Scottish 'term', because his accent always made it sound slightly odd. His mother, who had hardly ever been outside of England, could never understand my Mum on the phone - she didn't have a strong Glaswegian accent either - yet her favourite TV programme was Take The High Road...
Yes LP - the forecast was snow through last night, today and through the night tonight for Nevis/Carn Mor Dearg. Nobody will see it though - the cloud will be down to about 700 feet anyway! It's not that unusual though. Even the more southerly hills are often below zero through the night and into early morning, and there was sleet etc forecast for some of those tonight and tomorrow. May not get out this weekend Joyce. I have plenty to keep me occupied though
Hosta - when you bear in mind that today is the centenary of The Battle of the Somme, and when you think of what those men went through, doesn't it make you despise even more those who are meant to be running our country, whatever political party they belong to? Frankly, the whole lot of them are an embarrassment.
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
