This year because the house is up for sale I've waited to sow as much as possible in the GH, hence a sowing plan.

I didn't think it would be a good selling point, if the back bedroom looked like a mini nursery with seedlings and germinating seeds taking up every available space which gets light...image...

Chillies and peppers are strategically placed around the house in nice pots when I know a viewer is coming, otherwise they are on the windowsill in the kitchen ...image

The GH on the plot, on the other hand, is rapidly filling, even though I'm at risk of losing stuff if we get a frost. Went this evening to check on them and water, think I've lost some seedlings (brussels) to a frost yesterday morning but on balance most seem to be doing ok. I've sown everything a month after the earliest date it's said on the seed packet though and most are early varieties.

Good to hear you have more space to grow Aster2.

Hi folks, has anyone sowed any seed direct yet? I have done a few rows if parsnips but the rain has probably washed them awayimage

Haven't started any seeds direct yet but am going to plant out onions this weekend if it stay's dry.

Asparagus crowns arrived today so plan to plant them out too.

I only put in shallots and garlic and potatoes so far, though the weeds are happily growing now, so I suppose one could sow directly here. But I'm hesitating to sow direct - I spotted a lot of slug damage today, on my strawberries, lemon balm and echinacea. And the caraway plant I put in three weeks ago has been completely eaten. In fact, all new growth has been eaten or at least nibbled. Slimy b.....s. Slug pellets it is!

I try to be organic but slugs have beaten me, I use pellets on the plot but in the GH seem to get away with using gravel in tray's to stand pots and egg shells in the pots.

How long do you use the pellets for, Zoomer44? Is one application enough, to protect the plants when they're young, or do you need to keep using them even when the plants are mature?

Good luck with the house sale, by the way. Will you be able to keep your allotment once the house is sold?

I tend to reapply for some plants as slugs and snails just won't leave them alone, for instance lettuce and they also eat flower heads. They ate all my tulip heads last year. Usually by mid summer I forget and then just reapply near plants that are being nibbled.

I'm going to keep the plot, the property I'm buying is about 10mins drive away, it is cycleable but at the top of a steep hill.

Hello , just having a couple beers before dinner , we have been up at allotment today

Dug bed and planted first early potatoes , Swift , should be ready in 7 weeks , never grown these before

Also dug a bed for secound earlys , hard work as I had never dug this bed properly before , got lots of horse tail out , will dig again before planting

Broad beans got battered by snow from Friday

Do not have a slug problem but have shredded material on path but do put pellets in glass jars on each bed
