Gardengirl, I have used a petrol strimmer in the past , now got a battery one with plastic blade and I find it much better , best of luck with sorting it out

O/H has been potting up various items in g/h last couple days , currently got chick peas and a ginger soaking overnight , we will have to compare results at end of season

Spent today at allotment , keeping beds weed free , a bit of digging and put path clear on all the paths

Tommrow I am going to put in main crop potatoes ? and hand weed the shallot beds

Moles and getting to be a problem this year !

Hope alls well with everybody image

  • My water butt is empty!!! This is not good I have re-seeded the lawn and have watered it but now it is on it's own and waiting for it to rain, hopefully soon so everything can start to grow and liven up a bit!!

I signed up for my first allotment in January this year and have just found out that I may have to wait 18 months! I'm now 4th on the list, but those who have just been given one have been waiting for about that length of time. There are some others available now, but they are right the other side of the city!!image

Will have to learn patience and to be content with my 2nr 4 x 6foot raised beds in my garden!

  • Someone has been digging in the little patch behind mine that I was hoping to get If they were a no show :( they also put their top soil on my top soil patch which is poor form because it needs to go on the community compost pile and was only there because my wheelbarrow was in the post. I bet I end up shifting all of theirs as well :(  on the plus side if I dig over the other side of mine I will have just enough room for what I was planning.  Also dobbies had rhubarb, horseradish and onion sets for 50p each.

i really need to get my potatoes and onions in but I got my orchard turning up tomorrow so will need to wait in and plant it as well.

Learnincurve , what trees / bushes are you getting for the Orchard ? Just being nosey

Don't forget horseradish can be evasive so you need to restrict it !

Tycering , hold in there , do keep checking

  • The orchard is going in a really useless part of lawn which is about 90% moss and dandelions. I have the corner house so it's not even any good for sitting out in.

I ordered online from a place called blackmoor nurseries, two days before they stopped sending stuff out so everything was reduced. All two year old bare root bushes on m106 rootstock: tydemans's late orange, Golden delicious and Cornish aromatic.  Also a maiden prunus Royal burgundy on Colt stock cherry tree which is going in the back garden. I also have a potted Spartan apple tree on order from another place on eBay which I'm hoping will show up today but it's in the hands of the postal service now.

There will be much digging on this day.

Learnincurve, apple trees sound nice , I have one in the garden that produces apples the size of crab apples but are eatable , you would need to pick the lot to make an apple pie , often wondered what variety it is ?

I got a self seeded cherry tree on stream Bank but I keep it well pruned so it doesn't get to big

All the best with orchard image
