    I hope that's not a euphemism Steve...image image

I picked up some manky leaves from a border when I went out to feed the birds this afternoon. Too wet for anything else and too early to sow seeds. image

That's a pity W'song. A chance for something new and exciting for your lovely garden though image

    Roll on spring.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
  • If Santa can get down that chimney then he would be doing well. The house has two. This one is the one that, back in the day, was the exit for the fumes from the boiler. image

  • I have sown some seeds celery and celeriac seeds sitting on the window sill in 1/4 trays

  • An ideas for getting a more even germination of seeds grown in pots in a propagator and on the windowsill some seedlings are ready for pricking out whilst others in the same pot are far to small to handle.leeks are particularly uneven

  • Use small modules instead of pots Sue.  You can get them with up to 128 cells which fit into a standard size seed tray and can easily cut sections off to fit whichever size propagator you happen to have.  That way you can just pop the seedlings out of any modules which have germinated and leave the rest, or even snip the module out so that you don't disturb the roots.  I've been doing it that way for years as you will never tame nature in such a way to make seeds all germinate at the same rate! image

Had a fab day in the garden yesterday. Dug out a new bed. Room for more plants!!

Narrow at 15 inches, so manageable, but 11m long.

I am going to get some edging. Has anyone tried any? I found a company called Everedge that does a steel version.

I bet this photo comes out upside down - at the point of sending it is the right way up!

Tootles, if it were me, I'd make the border deeper.

The trouble I think you'll find when it comes to planting is that you will end up having to plant a single row of plants all the way along.

A bit deeper and you'll be able to stagger the planting and have something in front and something behind.

I'm sure some would disagree , but I love the wall, esp the curved part. Great opportunities there.

Thanks Hosta. I'm absolutely rubbish at working out what to plant in front of things though and never seem to get the balance right. I'd like to use the wall as a fitting backdrop, will need some structure to break it up too.

Lots to plan. It was quite easy to do as the ground is so soft at the moment.
