I'd better put the sweetpeas back in. Still doing the hokey cokey.

OH went to our bargain GC today and came back with a trailer full of shrubs: two Mahonia, a Cotoneaster Cornubia (about 3 metres high), an apple tree, two other fence climbers, one snake-bark maple acer (about 3-4 metres high) .......all for the princely sum of less than £35.

some a little battered and pot bound - but I am delighted. Just planted them out but rain stopped play!

No actual gardening, just contemplating growing ice plants, snowberry and frost flowers. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Potted on 6 tomato plants "Artisan Pink" then noticed that one of 6 tomato "Indigo ..." already potted on has drooped severely - hope it's just sulking & not a sign of disease? Kept AP's well away from other toms & bitter WNW wind jic. Hastily mowed grassy area ahead of gathering cloud & predicted rain approaching 6pm. Tidied up 'offerings' from various neighbouring cats....Rain stopped play!

  • Tried to write this last night but was just too tired!

Wasn't out long but got a bit done. Trip to GC to get herbs for planting up and Growmore; then back home to get started.

Drilled holes and put up wires on wall for climbing honeysuckle and rose in new planter. Planted out new edgeworthia, planted up herbs for kitchen veggie corner. Potted on clematis. Tied up new growth on two large clematis (clematii?) growing up arches. Shouted at dog for digging in low planters.

Glorious sun. Managed to liberate 3 ajuga seedlings from the lawn

Potted up in some nice soil

Then got bombarded by hailstones and now its cold and wet out.

I've found lots of snails buried in the undergrowth while I've been weeding. Bashed them with a trowel. Why does everything want to destroy my garden? Deer, slugs, snails, vine weevils, moles, hares, wasps (fruit, rarely get any left for me!), my cat (although I love her) etc. Think I have a wildlife park.

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Woke up to snow, had more snow until about 10am then the sun came out and melted the lot image.

Now put wires up and planted out clematis Rebecca and Bonanza. One more to plant out another time but the twins woke up so no chance today...

Went to a rose specialist GC to see if I could find the yellow rose I mentioned on another thread. There were more than 20 types of yellow rose so I bought a crimson one deep secret . It seemed perfectly logical to me.

    In London. Keen but lazy.
