  • Spent the morning up a stepladder, clippng back the ivy that covers the front of the house. Been desperate for a chance to do it. Missed doing it the year before last and last year, because it was overgrown, some pied wagtails beat me to it and built a nest in there, so I had to leave it. I've done all the bottom part now, just need a windless day to get the long ladder out and do the top. Weather forecast promising for this week, fingers crossedimage

I found the nest, very snug,  shall put up a nestbox for them in case they want to build again.

I have just confirmed that my Acer palmatum has Virmiculum wilt image

I've read up but I  don't know what to do. There is no chemical cure, half of it is dead

should I leave the plant alone and hope it regrows or remove it straight away?

  • Yes, trimmed my hydrangeas back to good buds and cleared some of the stuff that died back in the autumn. Amazing how the incentive of the gardening bin being emptied tomorrow can get your arse into gear. Bin filled!

  • Unfortunately I spent the day at work, back again tomorrow, hopefully I'l manage to get something done on my day off on Tuesday! Sounds like you've all been very productive!

Drowning sort of day here.  Our paddock is a lake again and the garden is too squelchy to walk on apart from paths up the veggie patch and to the bird feeders and compost heaps.

    Dancing was good though.

  • I did stuff a pillow up a disused chimney to prevent draughts, that doesn't count tho!
