That is a splendid picture, GWRS, thank you. I can remember the wounded veterans in the thirties sitting begging in the streets with limbs missing. There were no jobs for those who made it back home.
Gosh it feels cold out in the garden this morning at only 11 degrees with a strong wind too. Only forecast to reach 16 and chance of heavy showers too yet the sky is blue and the sun quite strong and very bright. We will see. I am still feeling euphoric after watching the Welsh football team last night. I had planned to switch channels to Gardeners World at 9.30 but no way was that on. I have never watched a game where it was so evident that the team was what mattered not any individual. They seemed to be all trying to help one another all the way through and it paid off. Well done. lads. My sons will tell you I have been a Ronaldo fan for many years but I think he may meet his nemesis in the Welsh boys. Ah well now to transfer all that enthusiasm into some gardening.
Same here Marion. GW got recorded. Cold and wet here, heating on. Better weather forecast from tomorrow. The garden is looking very bedraggled due to the weather so I'm keen to tame it a bit.
Wind has dropped and forecast is for warm and dry all day so should see some progress in the front garden today. There are bowls of strawberries and blackcurrants needing attention but I did see to the broad beans yesterday. I must feed the tomato plants today as the fruit is forming. It will not be long before I will be harvesting ripe tomatoes and plums.
What a glorious gardening day. Here are a few pics - one artistic one from my friend's garden of his oak-leaved hydrangea next to Lady Hamilton rose and a dahlia and poppy from my garden.

That's a lovely subtle dahlia... I've never really been tempted to grow them before, but I could go for that one.
