No frost this morning and three degrees already with forecast of getting up to 7.  I have my friend coming for a birthday lunch tomorrow so will have a warm kitchen today making his birthday cake.  Still too cold to go out in garden.  I have the light on it is so dark and the cars bringing the children to school have too so looks like rain on the way.  Lots to keep me busy indoors however.

Here are the flowers just out from my friend's two amaryllis bulbs.  They sit in his bay window lit up at night for the pleasure of his neighbours.

Duckpond forming on the kitchen patio already and it is dark as night and raining but it is already 7 degrees and forecast to reach 12  the afternoon and get brighter and drier so not too bad for my visitor.  Cake and pie for lunch all made yesterday and looking good.  I am looking forward to having another of my friends in the "Wise Old Owls Club" which is what I call my octogenarian friends.  I shall have to find a suitable name for the nonagenarians in a couple of years.

Good to hear that Verdun.  I know I rely a great deal on my friends for inspiration  I have always subscribed to the belief that knowledge is not private property!

M sister in New Brunswick recently had five ft of snow and what the East coast of America gets she usually has with knobs on.  they have such long winters there with snow in September and permafrost till May.  Brrrr.

Lots more snowdrops out today and a picture of the birthday cake.  We had a delightful lunch.  Another friend is coming to supper so I need to tidy
