Ooh, forgot to say... 2 days ago it was warm, humid and still, and the perfume on my little circular sunken patio was almost overpowering!  I have the old rose, Fair Maiden's Blush, next to a Mrs Sinkins dianthus, with Buddleja alternifolia behind.  A couple of yards away a Philadelphus was adding to the mix.

The rose gets appalling black spot and has a really ungainly habit, but the scent is perfect.  image

Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.

Here are some pics of my mother blackbird now trying to feed her brood of four youngsters all bigger than her which she has sheperded under the picnic table and the collar dove who has called a truce to allow her to feed them in safety.imageimage

The rain is over for today so I took out my camera and found it had persuaded the buds of my white peony with yellow middle and my red Oriental poppies to open

That's an unusual (to me) peony Marion. After a dry start it rained until lunchtime then cleared up again. The wind dried the grass and my 'grass man' was able to get it cut and edged. This is the first year that I've had someone come to do the grass.

What a change from rainy Monday!  Brilliant sunshine this morning and a dry patio.  I should be able to get a lot of weeds out today.

Weeding and dead heading required after wind and rain but housework first before carer comes at 2pm.

Joyce you sound like my mother who used to clean up the house before her cleaner arrived!  Welcome home GWRS.  I hope you had a good holiday.  Yes the warm wet weather has made everything grow very quickly including the weeds.  I must pick in beans and strawberries before I get doing some more weeding.  The red white and blue scheme I  had  planned for the front garden display may have to be changed as the white flowers are very scarce or over.  Pity as i wanted it to be my celebration of the Queen's 90th.  Still she did hint that enough was enough in her speech at the Mall party!

Don't worry Marion. If it's done for the Tuesday carer and that covers the Wednesday one as well  then  that's it until next week. For the last two months I have a cleaner for 2 hours a fortnight and I do not clean beforehand. . . . I garden when she is here as she is happy to keep and eye on OH.

Sensible Joyce.  I used to say to my mother she was like the lady who kept a dog but did the barking herself.  Her cleaner was a Spanish immigrant who was excellent and my father and brother with learning difficulties both got on very well with her and would lift their feet up for the vacuuming long before she got to them!
