Hi Marion, I like your photos, we always have a would pigeon sat on our chimney, you can hear it if your sat in the front room, we also keep hearing an owl at night and it sounds very close, lovely to listen to.
It's been cold but dry here and only 2c and -4 tonight : /, just sat with the fire on warming my toes : )
Great new series just started on the evolution of islands on BBC4 - Hawai tonight and Madagascar next Monday. Fascinating stuff and flowers to die for.
Coldest day yet this winter - with minus 2 when I got up and cold day forecast with max of 3 and -3 tonight. Thank goodness I bought the new greenhouse heater for the conservatory. It was warmer than the rest of the house this morning. Seems like all the country is very cold too except the far west tip of Cornwall and Devon. Just been reading that Tresco had nearly 300 plants in flower just after New Year..
Brrrr - it is so cold. Minus five degrees still so last night was definitely the coldest Bristol has had in a very long time. By the looks of the forecast we will be sweltering on Friday. There must be some very mixed up plants out there in my white garden. I must get some food out to the birds. I can see lots of them perched on the treetops watching my kitchen door for signs of life.
Ive just taken delivery of new bird feeders, and I've ordered some rain domes to try and keep the seed in them dry. 8 Blackbirds down on the lawn at the moment. I don't know how the little birds will cope with the domes, I'm trying one on and one off at the moment.
The last two spikes of my Xmas hyacinths are still perfuming the kitchen in the brilliant winter sunshine which is so weak in warmth it is having no affect on the hard white frost we still have.
I have my bird feeders under a Hawthorn tree , gives them protection from the Sparrowhawk , who does take the odd pigeon and black bird , plus a bit of shelter from elements
The conservatory is the warmest part of the house so I am working in there. Cheered when I saw red buds bursting on my red camellia which was supposed to flower for Xmas but did not and my new primulas from very cheap plugs are showing their colours now, cream and red so far.
Marion I'm loving the owl : ) lovely photos too, it looks like spring in your conservatory , the weather has been nice and sunny although cold, in fact when I finished work at 5.30 my front car window had frozen at 2c bbbbrrrrr.
Hope you've stayed indoors today Marion wrapped up warm : )
