Just returned from Christmas in Galway, western Ireland, with the family. It was relatively mild there but distinctly windy! Daughter's new garden is in need of some TLC so I may be making another trip over there in the not-too-distant future to help her sort it. It's difficult for her to find the time when her children are little - they always want to "help". She'll give them each a little patch to tend, once the warmer weather arrives.
The garden here is looking windswept but undamaged.
Since 2019 I've lived in east Clare, in the west of Ireland.
Hi Flumpy - yes thank you, it was lovely - there's something about the excitement of little children at Christmas which makes it special!
Daughter's garden isn't big, which is the only thing she doesn't like about the house (which is an eco home and wonderfully comfortable). But there are walls which will be suitable for fruit trees (facing south-west) and space for a veg bed. The soil, imported by the builder after the houses were finished, is pretty claggy and full of couch grass, so getting a nice load of manure delivered might be the way to go. The builder sowed grass seed and put in 3 trees, a Prunus 'Amanogawa' (the maypole cherry), an Amelanchier and a crab apple, and daughter has dug out a lot of couch grass roots, so progress is being made...

My friend came at 2 with a lovely book "100 flowers and how they got their name" and a bottle of her home made egg nog " rum, eggs, evaporated milk and icing sugar". We had a safari round the garden and I showed her where the new "Alpine Tapestry Garden" is going. Bulbs showing everywhere and snowdrops in flower.
Ll they've done a lovely job on that garden, I can see some nice plants going in on the left there, tell her well done
Marion I'm excited to see what your new tapestry garden is going to look like, is that what your new forum title will be call "Marion's Tapestry Garden"
Oh my goodness it is even colder this morning, minus 3 and only forecast to get to 4 degrees so no gardening today. I will tidy the conservatory. My parcelforce redelivery did not materialise so I will have to try to find a person on the end of the telephone somewhere.

Morning Marion, it's -1 here in Bury and very frosty white too, so best get the wool jumper on today
.
your parcel has taken a long time, I know when I sent my card to NewZealand it took nearly two weeks.
I am meant to be getting my spark plugs fitted in my car today, my husbands friend is putting them in all being well.
hope you enjoy your afternoon with your friend and hope the sun melts the frost away, if it gets warm enough

Hi Liroidendron, sounds like you've had a lovely Christmas
its been windy here too and Xmas day was warm, but the temperature as only dropped the last few days, at least it's dry for now.
is your daughters garden big ?, I bet you can't wait to get stuck in.
we are thinking of selling up in the next few years, somewhere with a bigger garden and either a drive or garage.

Flumpy, that's what it was like when they moved in last January;
and by August it was looking a bit better...
