Hope your nasty bite gets better GardenGirl. You are making a lot of progress too!
Ginagibbs, it sounds like you had a fab day!
sorry haven't been on here much but catching up on the thread,. I went to the plot today as I haven't been for quite a few days and every time I plan to go the weather changes. Boy there were a lot of weeds! I met some other plot holders and they were very friendly and I spent so much time talking to a few of them that I didn't have time to plant my runner beans but did plant my sweetcorn and pumpkins. I checked on my peas which have been nibbled but they are still growing.
Someone recommended putting lots of slug pellets down but don't know if I really want to. Also someone said to put weed killer down on some parts, should I do this?
Hello Stagbeetle, I did rub a dock leaf on it quick feels ok now - think I want to get one of those slug bell things like a little mushroom, depends if you want to use weed killer, I am trying not to so far, if you can keep the areas trimmed down for now then get to them later
The weather is not making up it mind at min
Think I found some artichokes on the plot little shoots that look like sunflowers and potatoes growing on the plot
Hello , Slug pellets I put them in glass jars , one per bed rather than scattering them around , it works for me , also stops birds or other animals eating them
weed killer didn't want to use any but in the end did to help clear plot , allowed us to get on top of things
I have shreded tree paths , so I regularly use path clear on them , again it works for me
Hi All, sounds like you are making good progress Garden Girl, that must have been really hard work cutting down brambles etc by hand. Can we see some photos soon? Did more digging last night, still reclaiming my beds on the side with the wide path, should give me a lot more growing space. I think i will also shrink down my paths that run across the plot too. The Chinese family showed up again and faffed about for a while, I did ask her if she wanted to let go of some space, if the plot was too much for them, that I would be interested
Ginagibbs hoping to go to the plot soon today - so will get some more pictures and put them up as picture thing looks like I will be able now to upload them - Ginagibbs are the Chinese people thinking about what you said?
Arms are in pain but want to get some digging done today
GWRS like the jam jar idea - I normally try to use nematodes on the slugs cost a bit but does help - won't be doing that on the allotment plot just the garden
Roughly want 4 large veg beds and 6 smaller beds for cut flowers, thinking maybe fruit down the sides - shed where brambles are cleared in middle ish and nearer next doors small shed a seating area
Ginagibbs have you got any Verbena B growing from seed?

Hope they will consider it GG. Have a nice hot bath with Epsom salts in, that should ease the aches!!
Not sure why, but have hardly seen any slugs or snails on my plot this year

will get the beer traps ready though
Here is a few pic of the plot my plot number 179
Dug 8 and a half metres so far, and cleared the bit behind to keep the brambles away from us
The tools used
We dug another half a metre today, came home and cut the grass that was knackering on my muscles, me showered that feels like it has helped my muscles
enjoy the pics
Well don GG, have you made a layout plan where you want paths etc?
Thinking of start planning this week
Roughly want 4 large veg beds and 6 smaller beds for cut flowers, thinking maybe fruit down the sides - shed where brambles are cleared in middle ish and nearer next doors small shed a seating area
Ginagibbs have you got any Verbena B growing from seed?
Hi GG, no gave up on the verbena this year, I grew it a couple of years ago, it seemed to take ages to germinate. How about you?
Glad I managed to get more plants in yesterday, its raining continuously today. Planted sweetcorn, brussell sprouts and cauliflower.
Chinese family turned up again so obviously want to make a go of it.
