Not having a greenhouse I didn't think of the other insects philippa . I'm sure GWRS will read this (probably realises already)
Fruitcake congratulation, sounds just the right size for an extra plot. I thought keeping chickens would be quite labour intensive, feeding, cleaning out etc, but worth it! Look forward to photos.
There might be a problem keeping chooks at the new site as the only source of fresh water is me. There are troughs but no fresh water sources, but there's nothing stopping us having them at the original site. We can grow quick turnover stuff at whichever site we have the chickens and the longer growing stuff like squash etc at the other one
i need to chat to him indoors though cos he is currently sat further to the no side of the fence
We have a garden but it's a rented house so keeping them here wouldn't really be an option. Having the extra allotment isn't the problem as we've both put our names down for another plot, but initially both at the same site. We know what we would grow at each site, but fresh water right now I think is the biggest issue. We are going back on Saturday for a better look during the day so hopefully we can get a better picture of how things stand and what we can or can't do
my girls would be the best kept chooks ever well, as best kept as they can be on an allotment lol
Hi GG, for your information, this was the process with my plotI was on the waiting list for 3 yrs)
I had a phone call from the allotment officer (she is another plot holder and I think its a voluntary role). She also shows any prospective plot holder the plots available and discusses all the details ie water, prices, sheds, rules and regs etc. Once I had convinced my OH and decided to take on a plot, I went to see the council officer in charge of "green spaces" to sign a form, have a brief discussion and pay for a gate key. A few weeks later I had an agreement to sign and send to the council.
It may be different with privately owned allotments, some are owned by the church or other organizations.
Subject to the weather will be there all day Sunday, we are having a general tidy up of hedges , paths ect. , last year we got a load of tree saplings free from the Woodland Trust which we planted
The site is owned by a local farmer/land owner and a plot holder acts as the site agent , with a committee of plot holders
might pop up Saturday if I get a chance , lots of jobs still
Both allotments, it's been a phone call from the site reps. They get given a copy of the waiting list for their respective sites and just work their way down it.
I like that it is site reps, as they have plots on the site and can tell you so much more than a paper pusher who doesn't want to get mud on her shoes lol.
The paper pushers then send you a copy of the agreement, you sign and send it back and they give you the key. Or, you could do it like me and harass thr, by email until they give in and allow you to take the paperwork and leave with the key

any advice welcome
Do you have a garden fruitcake? you could get the chickens to eat the slugs
You will be able to grow lots of fresh veg and have your own grown cut flowers
you need to let him know it all taste better home grown and you get nice fresh air to be out in
You need to let him pick out a few veg/flowers that he would be really interested in
let him have a man shed that may help
not really sure what to say fruitcake

Just a Q when they tell you that a plot is available do you get a phone call letting you know or a letter?
Question for all
Q who gets to show you the plot is it a member of the allotment or someone else?
Just wondering as not got that far yet

Hello everybody , the weekend is nearly hear
Subject to the weather will be there all day Sunday, we are having a general tidy up of hedges , paths ect. , last year we got a load of tree saplings free from the Woodland Trust which we planted

Interesting having allottments on 2 sites because some things are bound to do better on one or the other
will you have 2 sheds ?
I would be lost with out mine
lots of hard work and best of luck
Yes, there are two sheds. It's gonna be a bit tricky with some of the equipment but I'm sure we'll find a way. Well,I hope so anyway!
Pat the moment, the stuff with the faster turnover is going on the same site as the chooks, and the stuff that takes longer is going to the other one.
